It seems that the 597 as first released had its problems like any new product. I'm now hearing more favorable reviews from the masses. Has anyone heard what specific changes they have made to make this model more reliable? BTW, I already have a 10/22 so don't even mention it :)

Got the itch for a .45ACP pistol for CCW and recreational shooting. Narrowed it down to two guns. Looking at a Ruger P97 or a Glock 30. I can get the P97 new locally for $319+tax, or the G30 for $539+tax. I'm trying to convince myself that the Glock is worth the extra $220. It's working for now...

I've been admiring a No. 5 Jungle carbine for quite some time. Historically correct or not, they are a great looking rifle. I visited their home page this morning and they say their rifles are "temporarily unavailable". Anyone know what gives?

I picked up a Marlin 39AS yesterday and it has me baffled. Upon taking it apart I can't figure out how the bolt locks up. On every other gun I've taken apart the locking surfaces have been quite obvious. Anyone know how it locks up?

Both Midway and SWFA have a Simmons Whitetail Classic 4-12x44 A/O Matte Granite finish scope on sale for $99. Any experience with the Whitetail? I'm obviously not expecting Leupold or Zeiss quality here, but isn't Simmons generally better than Tasco or Bushnell?
