    trouble w/ Super Blackhawk sight

Last night at the range, my dad's SBH was shooting to the right so he decided to adjust the sights. He turned the windage screw counter-clockwise two clicks and then it stopped clicking and the screw started backing out. He turned the screw back inwards, got the same two clicks and then the...

need GA gunsmith for lever action

I need a smith who is good with Rossi 92 models to do some trigger and action work. I figured some GA cowboy could point me to someone in the north metro area who qualifies. TIA Jack

    improving trigger on Rossi 92

I have a Rossi 92 that I love shooting other than the fact that it has about 2 feet of creep in the trigger. I have noticed this on every other lever gun that I have fired. Is that much creep "built in" a lever action, or can it be taken out? Thanks Jack

    loose screws affecting accuracy?

I was shooting my Ruger MKII .308 last Saturday and the shots were scattering (even more than usual :)). I figured the hot barrel was a factor, but last night while cleaning I noticed that the two screws holding the trigger guard were loose. Could those have been a factor in the loss of...

    death at Georgia firing range

Any GA TFLers hear about someone getting killed at a Forest Park range? This morning on the Neal Boortz web page he mentioned it, but he was busy ranting about Amanda Davis telling viewers that you must have a license to get a gun in GA, so he didn't give any details on what happened. So what...

favorite powder for .308 w/150gr bullets

The subject pretty much says it all. I've been shooting 165grainers, but was thinking of trying some 150gr (both will be for whitetail) and was curious to see what others have found to be their preferred powder. I almost forgot to ask: Where can I find a powder burning rate chart? Thanks...

Small change in powder/big change in point of impact

I've been working on hunting loads with my 7.5 inch Redhawk using 296 and RCBS 240SWC-GC. At 23.0gr, the POI is right on the bullseye (at 25yds). I get better groups with a max load of 25.0gr, but the bullets hit 4 inches to the left. I can see how changing a load would change POI at 100yds...

    Lee 44-310gr FP mold

Anyone ever use this mold? I saw a drawing of the bullet and according to the picture it looked like a good hunting bullet ie...nice wide meplat, weight forward shape. Just how close was the picture? Jack [This message has been edited by Jack Straw (edited August 10, 2000).]

    Paul B. -- 44mag question for you

Paul, I seem to remember from past discussions that you use the RCBS 240SWC-GC for some hunting loads...is that correct? If so, I was wondering what o.a.l. you use. I switched to this bullet with W296 but Speer #13 doesn't list the bullet in their loads. Thanks Jack [This message has...

Need help with Bushnell laser rangefinder!!!

What's up with this rangefinder? It's a Bushnell, but I don't know what model exactly (I borrowed them to set up a shooting range at hunting camp). Friday evening they worked just fine, but when I got to camp Saturday a.m. I pressed the button and only got "Er6" in the readout. I put in a new...

    Dry fire rifle practice?

In the quest for improved rifle skills I am considering the possibilty of dry firing for rifle practice. Anyone do this? If so, what sort of practice drills do you follow? Should I buy snap caps or could I fill the primer pocket of an old case with silicone (as I do for pistol snap caps)...

How to improve shooting? GA TFLer's take note

I have hunted deer with a rifle for practically all of my life, but I have never really had any sort of training or instruction (other than that which came from dad or an uncle). My shooting is good enough for what I do, but I want it to be better. What are some good sources of instruction...

Well crap, do I need a new guide rod for my Kimber?

I bought an 18.5lb Wilson recoil spring for my Classic Custom. After I installed it I worked the slide a few times and it felt about as smooth as 36 grit sandpaper. I took the gun apart and looked at the spring. One end of it had a burr which scratched the living hell out of the guide rod...

GA\FL CCW laws and other travel tips

I'll be heading to Florida in a couple of weeks and was wondering what sort of agreements exist between Georgia and Florida regarding concealed carry. I'll actually be spending most of the time at Disneyworld so actually carrying a gun will be a mute point there (God forbid the Pirates of the...

Recoil springs -- Wilson vs Wolff

I was looking in my Midway catalog for a Wolff 18.5lb recoil spring for my Kimber when I noticed that they offer a Wilson spring. The Wolff is $7.99 while the Wilson is $4.99. Almost everyone suggested Wolff springs, but are Wilson springs just as good? Wilson always comes up as a source for...

How to stop far flung brass

I recently bought a half case of Federal 230FMJ to feed my new Kimber Classic Custom. Everything works fine except for one small annoyance...the brass lands about 15 feet from the gun and since I want to keep it for reloading, I have to hunt for most of my cases. Is there any simple trick to...

    Georgia turkey season opener!

Well who did better than I did (Peach state or elsewhere)? I heard several gobblers but didn't see the first feather. I thought my chances were pretty good. My dad and I hunted together and at daylight we heard two very talkative toms, so we set up so that one of us was on each side of a...

how do you store your molds?

I want to find a better method of long term mold storage...something besides oiling the things. It gets pretty humid here in Georgia so that might be my best bet, but I hate the clean-up when I want to cast. Jack

    defense ammo for .45acp

I was just wondering what ammo you use for defense in .45acp. Have you found any particular loads that are unreliable as far as functioning (ie...failure to feed properly, etc..)? What are your favorites? Jack

ak9 - tell me more about that Sparks VM2

ak9, I would have e-mailed you about this, but you don't even have an address -- wassupwidat? :) In the "ultimate" concealed 1911 topic you mentioned that you use a Sparks VM2 holster with your Kimber. I've been looking at that holster for my Kimber, but would hate to spend that much money...
