Lever action .45 LC for primary home defense?

I've got lots of handguns--I'm mostly a handgun collector/user-- but I'm interested in rifles too. I've been thinking that for home defense, a longer barreled firearm makes sense. Longer sight radius, improved ballistics, etc. What do you think about a Winchester .45 LC lever-action for HD...

    Which MK II?

I already have a KMK-512 (stainless with 5.5" barrel), and I am going to buy a second Ruger MK II soon. Which model do you think would make a good compliment to my current KMK-512? I'm considering the following models: Standard (short barrel and durable fixed sights make it a decent outdoors...

    Ruger Mk II grips

Is it possible to order a Ruger Competition's side grips and install it on another kind of Mk II (ie a KMK-512)? Also, what grips do you people prefer in general? I'm not happy with the standard KMK-512 grips...

    You're NEW firearms luck

How much luck have you had when purchasing NEW firearms? How many times have you had to send a pistol back to the factory for repair or work, and what make/model was it? I've had good, but not great luck. I had a S&W 457 that was a jam-o-matic and had to be sent back (and they never did get...

    Jetfire, Tomcat questions?

One of my friends has a Beretta 950 (aka Jetfire), and after looking it over it seems like a good quality pocket pistol. I've always wanted a small pocket pistol (they're so damn cute)...simply to have in my collection and to plink with (please no lectures on stopping power--this won't be my...

My Ruger P97 is not feeling well. :(

Well, this is an update from a previous Ruger Forum thread that I posted in. After Ruger sent me replacement parts to hopefully fix the occasional problem of the slide stop popping out and locking the gun up, I finally had a chance to test the gun out today with the new camblock, recoil spring...

    CA 2003 Law

A gentleman at the Ruger Forum mentioned that he heard that Grey Davis signed the bill into law that requires handgun purchasers to get a license (effective Jan 2003). Is this true, and if so can one of you direct me to the website that would have more info on this new law...

    Update: CZ 75 B in .40

Update from a previous thread I started about a month ago. I officially have 600 rounds through her now, and not one malfunction. Considering the small ejection port, I must admit that I am quite surprised how reliable its been. Its still shooting fabulous groups......in fact, its more...

    Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk?

I have wanted a single action revolver for a long time, and I am going to get one soon. I can't decide if I should get the .357 magnum Blackhawk or the .44 magnum Super Blackhawk. I like the extra power of the Super BH, but I hear that its recoil is much worse than most .44 magnums. I am...

    SP 101 disasembly

I did a complete disasembly of my Ruger SP 101 and it is so EASY. Besides the learning experience, I was able to clean the inners and put a little CLP into the mechanisms (specifically the mainspring housing). Reassembly took a little longer, but its not that bad. Gotta love a revolver that...

    Convertible Ruger Blackhawk Models

Contertible Ruger Blackhawk Models They look really handy. Can any owner of the Convertible Blackhawk models please tell me what they think and if they recommend them. I think the .357 magnum model looks very tempting. You naturally can also shoot .38 spl in them but the convertible cylinder...

Who is going to be at Richmond, CA GSSF?

I'll be shooting at the GSSF match in Richmond, CA on Saturday. Just curious if any other TFL members will be there. Maybe I can meet some of you in person?.......

    Action operation

What action operation do you prefer on your semi-autos? (Single action, DA/SA, DAO, etc). I prefer single action only (cocked and locked capability). Note that the first option (Choice of SA or DA/SA) refers to pistols that can be used as a SAO or DA/SA.

    Most accurate pistols

Ok, this is very subjective, but I would like to see if any pattern can be deduced. So, what is the most accurate PRODUCTION pistol you've shot or owned in the following cartridges (please leave the fancy custom "race guns" out--I know they are usually the most accurate): .22 LR 9mm .40 SW...

    Even the .22LR is formidable!

I was doing some experimenting with small caliber bullet penetration and expansion using backstops that consisted of one old phone book, six inches thick old newspaper, and finally some old 2x4 wood in back (just in case). First I tried .22 Cap and it made a nearly clean hole (only slight...

    Dumb question

Why is the majority of .40 S&W ammo semi-wad cutters? I have not seen any ball ammo in that cartridge yet. Is there a reason?

    Purchase

Well, I decided to go with the CZ 75B in .40...and I ordered one. This will complement my current CZ 97B (.45). I will eventually get the 9mm version too, but for IPSC you are better off with .40 or .45 because you loose points with 9mm.

What is your favorite semi-auto brand?

Ok, let me first start off by saying that the poll only allows 10 choices. Thus, I cannot possibly include every maker. Keep this in mind before flaming me for not including your favorite. ;) One of the 10 choices will have to be an "other" option...another will have to be a general 1911...

    Rate Glocks

Now its Glock's turn for a poll. Based on your experience with Glocks, rate them based on the choices. I ask that those who give either "excellent" or "POS" ratings please explain why from now on with a follow up post. I'm going with "good", based on my current Glocks (21,26). They get the...

    Sig Sauer Pistols

I have to say that I am very happy with my Sigs. They are very accurate, and most importantly very reliable. I would label them as "very good", the only thing that I don't like is the allum-alloy frame which in the long run probably isn't as durable as steel. This poll is on for 2 days.
