Simple, straightforward question. Why is the 40sw round snappier than 9mm and 45acp?

What are the pros and cons of these 2 bullet shapes? Does one offer better performance than the other? I ask this because fmj 9mm and 45acp bullets are rounded, but fmj 40sw bullets always have flat tips, and i'm not sure why they're different. Thanks, Jd

I see a lot of this in forums when people are talking about different calibers. Some calibers do not penetrate far enough & some calibers have the potential to overpenetrate. Is there a caliber/bullet configuration that consistently stays within the recommended amount of penetration?
