    One powder for 38 SP, 9mm, 45ACP ?

I have not reloaded pistol in years now and have a bunch of cast bullets just sitting in the cabinet I am thinking about loading. I have a pound or so of Win 231 but doubt if I have enough What powder could work for all three cartridges? 115- 125 gn bullets for 9mm, 158 gn for 38 SP, 230 gn...

Hornady releases new 6MM ARC cartridge

reminds me of a 6 MM Grendel. Wouldn't mind trying one out in both bolt and gas rifle if tests out ok. My 6 BR and 6 CM bullets like around 3K of speed as far as nodes go, not sue if this thing can push them fast enough. Thoughts anyone ? https://www.hornady.com/6mmARC#!/

Powder weight , how accurate does it need to be for rifle

I did a seating depth test today on those 80 gn flat base Bergers. Just for grins all charges were thrown on my old RCBS Chargemaster 1500 with no second check or trickling up on the A&D. shot at 300 yards off a rest and rear bag, cloudy mid 80's very light winds group 1 - .060 from lands .643...

    6BR 8 twist 80 gn Berger test

Goal is a 6BR load that will load from a MDT 6Br magazine. Maximum OAL 2.257. Went with the 80 gn Berger and 8208 XBR. I did the load test in two runs. 27.0 - 30.0 then a second test from 29.5 to 30.3. Seated the bullets .050 below magazine length to give me some wiggle room. Next step is 25 at...

    Tumbling soap ?

In my Frankford wet tumbler I have been happy with the results just using some form of citric acid concentrate and a squirt of whatever liquid soap is handy. However I ran across this stuff that jewelers use, it would be more than the citric cost wise but just curious if anyone here ever tried...

    .223 1 in 9 bullet weight

I am getting ready to do another budget build rifle. The stock barrel will most likely be a 26" 1-9 .223 Rem. This will be my first 1-9 barrel and I am thinking 69 gn's with 24.0 - 25.5 Varget, Lapua, and CCI 400's. Any other suggestions? I am looking for magazine length preferably but will...

    Favorite .308 AR10 plinking/target load ?

Never loaded for a AR10 load and I am looking for suggestions and tips. How picky are these rifles as far as powder and bullet choice. What are realistic expectations with a stock rifle as far as accuracy ? Sub 1 MOA is goal, anything tighter than that would be gravy. Would love to stretch it...

Why do we do it ?

It sure ain't to save money. I just priced loading 1000 rounds of .223 vs buying 1000 rounds of Winchester bulk. 1000 blem bullets $65.00, 1000 primers $35.00. A little over 5 pounds of powder at $25.00 (Midway's TAC price), 1000 new LC cases $125. Lets say we get 4 uses out of the cases on...

to crimp or not to crimp?

that is the question. I getting ready to restock my .223 plinking ammo. This will just be light plinking stuff, shot in a AR15 using 10 or 25 round magazines. I did this a couple of years back and am down to my last 200 or so, never had a issue uncrimped. I plan on setting up the progressive and...

Hunting rifle recommendations in .260 Rem

Long story short I am thinking of purchasing a rifle suited more for hunting than target use. I want it in .260 Remington because of my experience using that cartridge for long range target use. So far I have been looking at Remington, Savage, Tikka, Ruger and a few others over at Gunbroker. I...

Does bullet runout matter on a gas fed gun?

With my 6.5 Grendel I decided to go low budget on the die set with a 30 dollar set of Lee dies instead of a Redding S bushing and a Micrometer seating die. I figure that I will only be using one bullet in this rifle, two at the most so setting seating depth is a rare occurrence and that...

    Forgotten .223 goodness

A few weeks back while scrounging around in my bullet drawer I ran across 3 boxes of 77SMK's that I had bought several years ago for my AR's. They shot great from my 1-8 twist Kreiger barreled AR but I had never tried them in my bolt .223. I loaded up 25 of them in Lapua cases with 21.5 to 23.5...

    6.5 Grendel powder choice ?

I have been beating around the bush oin buying or building a non .223 AR for a year now and finally decided on a cartridge. Just ordered a pre built 6.5 Grendel upper from Sanders Armory, 20 inch barrel. I will be using 123 SMKs for paper punching 300 to 800. Anyone load for this or a similar...

    Imminent case failure

This is why you need to do a inspection of every case before reloading them. This is a Lapua .223 Match with unknown number of firings, probably between seven and ten reloads at a guess. I noticed faint lines on two of eighty so a quick paper clip inspection revealed a crack beginning to form. I...

80 SMK vs 77SMK range report

Last night I was looking through my bullet cabinet and found a bunch of .223 that I had totaly forgotten I had including 250 77 SMKS. I planning to run to the range today to center a scope on another rifle anyway so I loaded up 20 of the 77's last eve and took up some 80 gn SMKs that I had...

55 round load development - tested @300 yards

A few weeks back I came up with a new to me method for load development. I made a thread on it here https://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=599693 . I took the data from that test loaded up 75 more rounds and shot a 96% aggregate at 600 the next week. Last week I used the same method...
