    Polymer-cased ammo

Saw some 55 gr .223 polymer cased ammo the other day. Bought two boxes. Amazingly light compared to brass. Anyone tried it yet?

    Strange M2 ball ammo

Picked up some FN M2 ball, boxed 20rd/box, with a sticky greenish powder dusting on the bullets. When rubbed off on paper it looks like grease or graphite. Box markings: Poudre Buskruitt CTG 30 Pour FM Voor MG Headstamp is the usual FN and 2-digit year. I...

    Malvo was the shooter

Read today that the ONLY prints on the rifle were Malvo's. So, lessee...first it was a white male right-wing nutcase. Ooops, wrong, it was a pigmented Muslim. Well, still, it wasn't his religion, it was obviously that the Army taught him to be a killer! Ooops...wrong again....it was the guy...

    What is gun use?

We see a lot of stats regarding how many cars vs how many car deaths, and same for guns. And I think someone here wisely pointed out that a more sensible comparison would be in terms of units of use, e.g. miles driven per death. But a gun which is kept for defense is always in use, no? Its...

    More gun poetry

Thought about this for awhile. There really isn't any poetry out there specifically about guns, outside of pop lyrics and western songs, and a few passing references in conventional poems like Emerson's about Concord. I think it's because, as we've said all along, guns are truly neutral objects...

    Over-powder wad for M1

I've seen a few people comment that some M1 match shooters tip their rifle up between shots for consistent powder position. Has anyone tried a wad over the powder, say a pellet of tissue paper? Would this gum up the gas port or the cylinder?

    Glock fails to explode...

just noticed today that my G22 hasn't blown up. The rails haven't failed either. And it din't AD/ND. And it has digested thousands of rounds without a failure. What a I doing wrong? Did I get a counterfeit Glock?

When you load .45ACP real slow...

Years ago I read Col. Askins' book 'The Art of Handgun Shooting' as my bible, and learned a lot. He talks about loading .45 as low as possible for target, and I think he was using something like 3.5 gr Bullseye at one point. When I finally got a 1911, that's what I did. Got light springs from...

    When Character Was King

Reading Peggy Noonan's book by that name, I came across a favorite anecdote of Reagan's: USS MIDWAY on patrol in the South China Sea came across a rickety boat full of refrugees from Indochina. As MIDWAY came alongside, one man in the boat caught the eye of a sailor on the flight deck, and...

    pre-03A3 Rem.

Today I saw what is purported to be a WWII Rem. 03 rifle. It had the 1905 sight ahead of the breech, 1903 markings, but a Hi Standard 1943 barrel. The stock looks like the 'scant' stock which is not straight but doesn't quite have a pistol grip either. The trigger guard/floorplate/magazine is...

    .22 handguns illegal in MA???

My sister has been shopping for her first handgun, and on my advice looking at .22 autos. She now tells me .22 handguns are ILLEGAL in Mass. !?! Anyone ever hear of this? I can almost believe it...that's why I live in NH.

    Target revolver

I've never been much of a revolver guy, so pardon my ignorance. My sister who lives in Mass. has been looking to buy a handgun mainly for target use. I reccommended a good .22 auto such as Ruger MkII....she now tells me .22 handguns are ILLEGAL in MA!!! So I said she should find a good .38 or...

    Science

Please indulge me, fellow TFLers. It seems to come up again and again that strong claims are made on the basis of 'scientific proof' of one thing or another. I feel compelled to point out that most people just don't understand how research works. I'm no scientist (and I don't play one on TV...

    Old K-Hornet

No, not me...I mean my Savage Model 219. This is a break-open single shot rifle I got from my brother years ago. The thing is, I've never been sure whether it's a .223 or .224 bore, though I have tried 'slugging' it with a pulled .22 rimfire bullet. Any opinions on what it's likely to be...

    Model 52 project rifle cont'd

Well, I bought the beat -up 52B for $150. Stock had been shortened sloppily, barrel band missing, no mag, pitted metal and ringed bore about 1' back from muzzle. As is, from sandbags at 50 yd with target ammo and high speed hollow points, it shot about 1 1/2" to 2 1/4". In my basement range at...

    Model 52 questions

    1. Anyone ever glass bed a 52B? Any pointers? 2. Anyone have a source for 52B stocks? Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) has only 52C stocks, which don't fit. Thanks!

    .22 project rifle part 2

Well, I did it. I bought the beat-up Winchester 52B. By the serial # it was made in Sept 1948. Action is fine, and so is the trigger/safety. BUT the barrel is ringed about 1 foot back of the muzzle. How you ring a thick 22 barrel is beyond me, unless you lodge a bullet there and leave it for 10...
