    Precision 22lr semiautomatic?

Is there such a think as a match grade semi-auto 22lr? With a friend we shoot 22 lr silhouette, and wind is the deciding factor in a match at the longer distances. We're getting the feeling that being able to shoot a series of 10 targets in a quick sequence when the wind is stable is more...

110 gr RN in 300 AAC?

My 300 AAC built is slowly nearing completion, down to making ammo. I found some brass, and I have Hornady 110 gr RN bullets (the 30 car type). Hogdon has a load for the 110 gr V-Max with H110 which I have. Any reason not to copy that load for the RN bullet?

    Browning BLR barrels interchangable?

I have a Browning BLR takedown in 450 Marlin that I shoot very little, something to do with if you're close in power to a 458 WM you're also close in recoil. Last trip to my LGS showed 325 WSM as one of the few calibers with an adequate choice of ammo available, leaving me with the question if...

    300 AAC AR-15 spring/buffer

I had a stripped lower lying around and run across an actual in stock 300 AAC complete upper. The one thing I'm unsure about with this build is the spring/buffer combination. I don't see a specific 300 AAC set offered, so am I fine with a regular 223 spring (I have a Wolf Xtra strong spring...

    Kar 88

My other new toy, 0 to 2 in 8x57 in a week Kar 88 made by Schilling in Suhl in 1892, a bit spotty but all matching numbers Neat troop mark, Funken Telegraphen XIII. Korps (radio group 13. army corps) You don't see that anymore, screws numbered to the rifle

308 Norma Magnum to 300 Winchester Magnum

A friend of mine has a very nice FN Mauser in 308 Norma Magnum. With the limited availability of the 308 NM it would be nice to rechamber into 300 WM. From my research both cartridges have identical dimensions but for the NM shoulder being 0.11" shorter. What is basically a short chambered...

    Kar 98k without disassembly disk?

Kar 98k without disassembly disk - now with pics I picked up a 1939 K98k at a gun show, but I'm confused about one feature - a stock without the bolt disassemble tool in in the stock. The stock also has a swivel underneath in addition to the typical sling slot. Any ideas?

    Short barrel powders

My Kar 88 has arrived, and I got lucky, it got the S bore after all. But - it's still a 17" 8x57 barrel, and every picture/description I find describes the spectacular muzzle flash. As I plan to make some low power rounds for starters (the whole 125 year old gun thing), does anyone have...

    M88 8x57I (.318) reloading

I want to try a Gew 88, unmodified at .318. Now of course I can spend $150+ for the fitting RCBS custom dies, but I keep finding hints on people modifying a standard .323 set to seat the .318 bullets. Any help on how to do that?

Correct grips for a Colt Mod. 1901

When I purchased my Colt 1892 US Model 1901 I was told the grips are civilian. Does anyone know what the correct issue grips on the military model were?

    DA problem with Colt 1892-1901

I have a US Model 1901 stamped Colt 1892. While it shoots very nice in SA mode, it seems to push the cylinder out of alignment in DA mode, allowing only about 4 of the 6 positions to fire. The weak cylinder lock seems to be a known problem on that series, is there a fix?

    Stock finish on Swiss K31

I picked up a K31 with nice metal but a very blotchy stock, looks like it got wet once. Does anyone know what the correct finish is on those rifles?

    Reticle for Benchrest shooting

My local range has a .22 benchrest group, and a friend and I are thinking of joining. We got us a nice Anschutz, but we're having issues picking a scope for it. It came with a 5-15 Zeiss hunting scope, and we want to replace it with a dedicated large magnification scope. What we haven't...

in-state private to private Class III?

I have a local friend who's looking into getting rid of a FA gun he's not taken out of the safe in 20 years. I'm interested, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with the intricacies of Class III transfers. Can we file the paperwork ourselves, or do we have to get a class III dealer involved?

    750 gr 50 cal to 2000 ft/s

At work, I have to do some ballistic impact testing to show material performance when hit by a .50 BMG round. I don't need a full power impact, but even at 1000 yards the standard 750 gr bullet still has 2000 ft/s. So, I need a to find a cartridge that can do that. Using the 50 BMG itself is...

    Gun show trade and sell?

At the last gun show I attended there was an argument about the legality of trading for a gun and then selling it at the same show. About half the people thought you can't do that as a private seller, others thought it fine. There was also a rumor of ATF agents trapping people with that trick...

    Blaser gunsmith

Are there people certified to work on Blaser rifles in the US? My K770UL trigger is getting so light that I'm afraid to take it out hunting (as in 1 oz), but trigger adjustments are "factory only" on that rifle. Any ideas?

It's not the sex that's bad for you

it's the running after that gets you in trouble. This guy fell for my guide's "cow in heat" call, arriving at a brisk speed "visibly excited", and with utter disregard for the two guys staring in the opposite direction. We were actually at the forest edge staking out a large meadow when he...

    La France 6Pac 45 ACP

A friend of mine own a curious compact 45 that I've not been able to gather any good info on. It's a 45 ACP "6Pac" made by La France, CA. I've found some mentioning of a 9mm version, but nothing on the 45. Does anyone have any more info on that gun, period of production, number made etc.?

Ever bought a gun because of the weather?

There I was at Sportmen's, and it's pouring outside. And somehow my thoughts wander to the fact that in weather like that I wouldn't want to drag out any of my elk guns. And I have a "once in a lifetime" trophy tag for this year, so no "I wait till the weather gets better". And there was a...
