    Frog Lube = coconut oil

Accordingto the fellow in this thread, Frog Lube is nothing ore than coconut oil with an added fragrance. I generally use Frog Lube for removing rust from antiques and then follow up with Renaissance Wax for conservation work. For everyday/post-range cleaning, I use Hoppe's or Outers' solvent...

Winchester 50 and 59 Slide Pin

The two designs are virtually identical with the latter being lighter aluminium frame and Win-Lite barrel. Both use David Marshall "Carbine" Williams' floating chamber concept in that the actual chamber floats 1/10" (back and forth) within the receiver and the barrel. This eliminates any need...

Winchester Model 50 12 GA jams on third round

Apparently the carrier lock swings out and prevents the third round from exiting the magazine. Any thoughts as to why?

Jennings Nine won't open all the way

It's not mine (I have better taste). Anyway, I came across a Jennings Nine that the slide won't go back all the way. I thought about removing the grips, putting the frame in a padded vise (magazine loaded with dummies for support) and then placing a pine board against the slide and whacking it...

    Marlin M99 22 LR

Where can I get a magazine tube inner assembly? This is the yellow part that has the spring and follower and endcap that slides into the magazine tube. Also, there were two different types depending on the dates. What is the cutoff or how do I distinguish between the two?

Replacing the firing pin on a S&W revolver hammer

Has anybody done it? Is it simply driving out the old rivet and installing a new one?

    Louis Awerbuck's The Defensive Shotgun

Went by the school library today and saw on the freebie table Awerbuck's The Defensive Shotgun. You bet I grabbed it up. I'm going to go through it later to see what I can learn from it. Later I asked the librarian if there were any more books by Awerbuck and she let me examine the two boxes...

Savage 167 20 ga ejection problem

I'm looking at an old Savage 167 20 ga pump action that has an ejection problem. Sometimes when you pump the handle back, it does not eject. The ejector is a fixed piece and does protrude beyond the bolt face when the bolt is all the way back. Thoughts?

    Saw a Springfield 03 today

It was very early, Ser #228*** and was probably made in 1905. It had the ladder type rear sight and someone told the owner that it was a sniper rifle. I saw no signs that a telescope was ever mounted on it. The stock itself was from Remington and it had the Lt. Col's (FJA) inspection mark on...

    Range (mis)adventures

I last shot my 45 cal Markwell arms half stock (it was full stock but I ditched the fore-end and brass spacer and soldered a rib beneath the barrel) to the range today. The last time I took it out was at the Rendezvous at Whittington Center, NM. I had left behind my reading glasses and could...

    Leroy Thompson's M-1D article

As a side note to Thompson's M-1D article, prototypes of the M-1C by Griffin & Howe and John Garand's M-1D were submitted to the Army at the same time. Whereas to make a M-1C, a bare receiver was sent to Griffin & Howe in New York State where it was drilled, tapped and hardened and then had the...

Patrick Rogers' Stop Blaming The Trigger!

I enjoyed Mr. Rogers' article that appeared in the Oct. 2015 issue of SWAT. Being retired, I'm old enough to have trained with a revolver before transitioning to a semi-automatic pistol for duty use. The only thing I would add is not to rely on the trigger guard to prevent a negligent...

    AR-10 v. AR-15 parts

OK, I know the buffer, bolt, bolt carrier, charging handles are different. 1) Would an AR-15 receiver end plate work on an AR-10? 2) How about an ambidextrous safety? 3) Norgon ambdiextrous magazine release? 4) Are barrel extensions compatible? 5) How about ejection port covers? What...
