B-wood casey vs. laurel mountain brown

I'm going to brown a revolver, I've used Birchwood Casey Plum brown but I read the Laurel Mountain rust bluing/browning solution is about the best. Has anyone had experience with them, to give me some insight?

    Refined colts

Many people shoot '58 rems in .44 and '51 Navies in .36. And they are for sale everywhere. But I seldom see or hear from anyone raving about the 60 Colt Army and 61 Colt Navy .36, which seem to be beautiful firearms and the apex of the cap/ball era. Why is that?

'58 Remington copy is real history

I picked up a '58 Remington today from a lawyer. Hadn't been shot or cleaned in a couple decades. It could be a historic icon: The last cap and ball used in a shoot out.(I am not making this up.) The lawyer represented a biker in Ogden, Utah, who got into an altercation outside a bar on 25th...

    My first!

CHAIN FIRE. (And I had wondered if chainfires were myth.) It was on my new Uberti Remington '58. It was a result of recoil knocking a cap off the nipple to the left of the one the hammer hit. I didn't realize it at the time. But I did a quick post mortem and no cap remains could be found...

    '58 Rem: Pietta vs. Uberti

Shot my c&Bs this weekend. The Uberti/Cimmaron (1998) is a subtly better piece than my Pietta (1994). Particularly the trigger. No creep and light release. That alone, IMHO, is the reason it is more accurate than the Pietta. The Uberti has less room behind the trigger guard and bangs my...

    .36 cal. Rem. '58 bummer

I decided to get it and I priced the "sheriff's" model at Cabelas at $200 yesterday. I called today to make sure they still had it so I could drive down tonight to buy it and was told it's now $220 (+$20 in gas to get there). Apparently, Cabela central increased the price. No .36 Remmy for...

51 Navy makes sexiest gun list

For wut it's worth, MovieStyleGuy, basically a film reviewer, picks the sexiest guns in movies. http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/movie-style-guy/movie-style-guy-guns-wanted.php This is a quote: The Colt 1851 Navy Revolver Designed in 1850 (odd, I know) by Samuel Colt and later adopted by the...

    Remington Navy .36

Besides the 5.5" barrelled one at Cabela's, does anyone make a more historically accurate repl. of the Rem. Navy. I'd like to get a solid frame .36 cal. Second, Does anyone have any experience with Cabela's or any .36 rems. How do they shoot? BTW, I was buying caps today and saw a used Rem New...

    Chain fire, mostly myth?

Or constant danger? I'm a novice, and everytime I read something about C&B revolvers, it includes a mention of CHAIN FIRES. Today at the range, one of the volunteer range masters was asking me what precautions I was taking to avoid a CHAIN FIRE. (smearing on crisco and beeswax doesn't inspire...

    Colt Navy woes

Took two revolvers to the range for a long session, the Pietta '58 Remington and the .36 Pietta Colt Navy. The Remington badly needs new nipples, but I've got it shooting close to POA and it's grouping nicely. But the 51 Navy drove me nuts. Lots and lots of misfires. The nipples look good --...

    Traded for an 1858

I been drawing down my collection of rimfires and a guy offered me Remington New Army (Pietta) for a rifle. I jumped at it. It's marked BD in a box, does that mean 1994? Yet another guy offered me a brass-framed Traditions Navy in 44 cal. I turned him down. I don't know what put the scratch in...

    C&B Revolver markings??

I'm carefully shopping for my next cap & ball. (Yes, I've got the fever.) I'm bewildered by the variety of brands. Besides the differences in old and new Uberti and Pietta, and discontinued makers, they seem to be offered under different importer and store brands. I've come across Hawes...

    Euroarms Rem. New Army

I came across a Euroarms rem. '58 with target sights in a shop: It looks like a gunsmith dovetailed the top strap and put a "stepped" rifle-type open sight and a tall front sight. (It couldn't be factory?) Nice checkered grips. It's got a broken "hand" so the cylinder doesn't rotate. I...

    Lost 51 navy spring?

I've been shooting the heck out of my new/old Navy (tnx, OldWheat) and tore it down last night for a complete cleaning. (I've been using KIK, a Slovokian black powder, which seems pretty good.) When I was looking at the parts in front of me and comparing to a diagram, I realized I had the...

    Remington Uberti flaw?

In my hunt for a c&b pistol I came across some basket cases, along with some fine firearms. One that I have a question about is a 58 Remington by Uberti that has a score (scratch) in the blue all the way around the cylinder (from the cylinder lock up). Is that common? I took it as a symptom of...

    Nice Navy comes my way

Don't know how to post pictures or I would. Nice ol' codger polished off all the markings and antiqued it, which probably made it hard to sell. He tells me it's a Pietta from Navy Arms. 5 years old or so. (still has serial no., is there a way to check the age?). I came across it when I got my...

    Frozen nipple in ROA

My Ruger Old Army has a stuck nipple and, despite gallon of penetrating lube, the hex is stripped. How do I get it out--a small easy-out? The nipple's not mushroomed, but I'm afraid if I keep shooting it without getting the nipple out, it will be that much harder later.

    Beauty and the Beast

I got to shoot my new Navy Pocket today. It's an Uberti and a beauty. But turned into a bear while shooting: 1. can't put caps on while the cylinder is mounted--not enough clearance. So I have to take the cylinder out to put the caps on. 2. Burst caps caused A LOT of jamming. 3. After the first...

    Grease or no?

American Pioneer Powder recommends NOT using grease in revolvers actually makes it easier to clean. Has anybody tried this? Sounds too good to be true. I use Pyrodex and Crisco in/on my Old Army and, boy, I hate messing with Crisco. It would be nice to eliminate it. Thanks.
