    Ruger OA vs. Italian replicas

I have a few Italian replicas: Rem. '58, Rem. Navy, Colt Navy, Colt '60 Army. And I have a ROA in stainless. I find--after tuning and getting good nipples--they all have similar reliability. The ROA is consistently more accurate than all but the '60 Pietta, which holds its own. For some reason...

    Remington Navy "5-shooter"

Yikes. One of my nipples in my Pietta .36 cal. 1858 blew out of the cylinder. It lodged in the hammer slot and left a couple small burrs that I had to file out before the gun would operate. I guess I've got a five shooter (not terrible since it's a good idea to keep a cylinder empty.) Are...

    Remington "Navy" new to me

I came across a second-hand, never-fired .36 cal Remington New Army. I know it's historical accuracy is dubious, but it's .36 Cal. and has a 6 1/2" barrel, somewhat like the original Rem. Navy. It's Pietta with a Date Code: CB. Can someone tell me the year on it?-- my chart doesn't include that...

    Loose arbor, 1851 Navy

I've got a STEEL .36 1851 Colt Navy (Pietta). The arbor is slightly wobbly side to side. Can it be retightened? I guess I'm asking how it is attached/pinned, etc. (By the way, nothing to do with the usual wedge issue--that's fine.) Any help appreciated. Thanks.

    Who made Walkers?

I know Uberti did. But a guy offered me a Walker at a tantalizing price, but he doesn't know the manufacturer. He says it's "old even for a replica" and doesn't seem to be marked. He lives too far away for me to drop by to look over for proof markings (unless I have a pretty good idea I'm...

    Just checking in...

I've got all my C/B revolvers working well. Almost no cap jams and good accuracy out of all of them. I can get fist sized groups out of any one of them at 25 yards. From a rest. I was getting fist-sized groups or better out of my Ruger OA and my Uberti '58 Remington at **50 yards**! Which was...

    Odd side hammer CVA

I came across a .45 cal. cva sidehammer rifle. By side hammer, i mean the hammer is on the right side and swings horizontally to the nipple. Kind of like an underhammer, but on the side, if you follow me. It's a nice, light, little carbine but I know nothing about CVA. Anyone with experience...

    Uberti 1873 Cap and ball?

I saw a Uberti SA in a shop that had a cap-and-ball cylinder in it with the injector rod. Was that a standard model and is it possible to drop a cartridge cylinder into it? It was $170, which seems a fair price. It's got a steel fram and is .44 caliber. Update: Googling, i discovered that...

    Gettysburg 1851 Navy.

I came across an Euro Arms Navy colt. Steel frame. It apparently had some kind of goldish electro-coating on it, which has worn and looks like hell. It is marked "Gettysburg Commemorative" on the barrel. (So I'm sure it's worth tens of dollars as a collectable ;-) I'm thinking of buying it...

    Triple 7 experience

I fired four of my revs with 777. So far, I'm pleased. Two 1858s with 20 grain loads (it felt hotter than 25 grains of BP or Pyrodex and the POI was higher too.) A Colt 1860 with 20 grains. And a Ruger Old Army with 34 grains. (really bucked) No wads or filler. Accuracy for the 58s and...

    Thumbs down on NAA Companion

I was offered a NAA Companion cap and ball rev with holster, bullets, etc. for $110. Cute li'l thing, but I figured I'd shoot it once and the thrill would be gone. Then, it would be a cute, but expensive paperweight. If it came in .32 cal..... I searched on this forum and nothing I read swayed...

    Happy with Pietta Remington

Shot for a couple hours today. My Rem '58 pawnshop Pietta is endearing itself to me. I got 2.5 and 3 inch groups at 50' with 25 g. Pyrodex. I upped it to 32 grains of Pyrodex and got a 2 inch group and a big ka-boom. I was grouping off a sandbag at 50'. I think the Pietta can do better with a...

Smell of pyrodex in the morning

I'm going to use up the last of my powder -- mostly pyrodex -- and soup cans tomorrow a.m. Gonna get 4 of 5 of my .44s hot and dirty. Then while my .44s soak in a bucket, I'll begin a fone search for BP or 777. Finally, I'll drive too %$#@ far to get it. But the morning will make it all...

    1860 Army shake-down

Played hooky for a couple of hours and fired my 1860 Colt Army. First time it's ever been fired. I mainly wanted to put a few rounds through it to just find out if it has any function problems. A couple of the Colt-curse cap jams from frags in the hammer notch. That'll clear up as I get to...

    Pietta 1860 Colt ball size?

I picked up an unfired 1860 .44 made by Pietta in 1979. I assume its .454. But I don't have any information with it. BTW, a 30-year-old unfired Pietta replica (no box) doesn't have any special collector's value does it? 'Cause I hope to bust some caps on it tomorrow.

    What's up with cones?

Novice question. I've got three kinds of nipples among my revolvers (not counting thread size). • Stock from factory--black finish. #10 • Stainless steel. #10. • Treso, bronzey looking.#11 I know the Tresos have smaller holes supposedly making the cap ignite better and helping shed the burst...

    Mystery icons?

I have a Navy Arms revolver from 1979. the only stamps I can find that seem to be manufacturers' marks, don't match anything I can find in the Dennis Adler article on proofmarks. Any help appreciated.

    Colt Dragoon

What's a ballpark value on a Pietta (might be Uberti) Colt Dragoon in very good condition? I've had one offered to me if I can come up with a "fair price." I wasn't looking for a Dragoon, but what the heck.

    Big thanks to all...

I shot my once-troublesome '51 Navy (Pietta) Sunday. Satisfying. The new Treso nipples, wedge and hand worked together as a team and I went through three cylinders before fouling was even noticeable. I was shooting 20 grain loads of fffg. (One load with 26 grains). Groups were consistent, if...
