    RCBS powder scales

I've found out that RCBS scales are now made in China and the quality is supposed to have tanked with the move. There goes my hopes to upgrade from a 502 to 1010 scale... My old 502 works ok and is reliable but the 1010 is supposed to be easier to use and dial in to small changes in loads. Tony

    Marlin .44 mag feed problems

A friend of mine has a Marlin .44 mag lever action that if you put more than one round in the mag, it jams. The local gunsmith said this was a noted problem in the early Marlin .44 mag and there is no fix for it. Supposedly the problem was that Marlin was in a hurry to release a rifle in this...

    .17 Hornady Hornet

Anybody here have any experience with loading for this round. I was hoping to make some loads with #2400 and Hornady 20g bullets but I can't find any date for this powder. The only powder I have that I can find data on for the .17 Hornet is Lil'gun and I've sworn off it because of how fast it...

Where do I find gun screws

I'm trying to mount an old peep sight to my 325 Stevens .30-30 and I need a pair of #10-32 taper head screws. I can't find these anywhere. The Weaver sight base screws look right but they only go up to #8. I'm getting frustrated. None of the usual suspects (Gun parts, Brownells, Midway.) has...

    Rebarreling a favorite rifle

It's late and I can't sleep and once again I'm thinking about rebarreling one of my favorite rifles. It's a Winchester 670 Ranger or in .30-06 in other words a Model 70 with a cheap stock with no floor plate like the ADL Remington (I have one of those too.) I lived in a damp climate when I got...

6.8SPC a flash in the pan or a long lasting round?

It seems that excitement for this round is wearing off and other than AR's nothing is being made for it. I think a Savage Axis would be a good seller in this round for first time or youth deer hunters. The only bolt gun in 6.8 was an over priced Ruger that no one has in stock... What do you...

    RCBS X-Dies

I saw these on the Midway site and they're claiming that they reduce case stretch. Anybody know if they're really better or if it's a gimmick to get an extra 20 bux per set of dies? Tony

    No deer in Western Oregon

Normally I can at least find tracks and droppings on deer trails but this year nothing. The only black tail deer I've seen were in a city park in Hillsboro, OR. Anybody else around here having better luck? Tony

    I fell in love today

I've always wanted an old field grade SxS shotgun for no other reason than I wanted one. Today I swung by a pawn shop that a friend recommended and I negotiated a deal for a Stevens 12 gauge 5100 with 30" barrels for $200 and they paid the Oregon transfer tax. It's very tight and feels like it...

    Super Blackhawk grip problem

I have large hands and I'm having trouble shooting my Super Blackhawk .44 with out getting my finger mashed. When I shoot it with the original grips, the back of the trigger guard mashes my middle finger. After I installed a set over sized Hogue grips, my trigger finger gets hit hard by the...

225g FTX vs 240g XTP in .44 mag

I'm loading for a .44 mag single shot rifle and one I'd like to try some of the Hornady FTX lever evolution bullets. One thing that concerns me is the loading data has the bullets seated so deep that it cuts way into case capacity. Since my single shot has sufficient throat to seat them long...

    Colt serial number

A while back I picked up a Colt Detective Special .38 for a carry gun. While I was cleaning it today I got to looking at the serial number and it seems rather short and I couldn't find anything on line about it. I know it's one of the last series and it's not a collectable. It's in about...

    Ruger .44 Mag value

I have money down on a flat top Ruger blackhawk flat top model. It's in nice condition and I was only looking for a shooter. Then today I was looking up the availability of grips and found that the 7 1/2 in barreled model is supposed to be rare. I got it for $450 and it looks very good. If...

    Uberti Sharps copy

My favorite gun shop has a used Uberti .45-70 that looks like a Sharps copy. Anyone have any experience with these. It looks very nice and I like the double set triggers and the octagon barrel. I'm trying to decide if I think it's worth a grand... Tony

    Bad powder

For the first time I have a can of what seems to be bad gunpowder. I decided on IMR 4895 for a load, I opened a new can, poured some into the powder measure and up came a cloud of fine brown dust. According to the Speer reloading manual, the powder is bad. Frantically, I checked all my other...

    OT maybe, non-anti gun banks

My local bank was taken over by Chase and after dealing with their BS, I closed all my accounts with them. I now need a new business account and I even though I'm not in the gun biz, I'd like to find a bank that doesn't support the anti-gun lobby. Any suggestions? Tony

    Is PMC brass worth reloading?

I picked up a bag of once fired .223 brass. A rough estimate would be about 1500~2000 cases for 20 bucks. In my first sorting session, I pulled out a couple hundred Winchester cases that I'm going to tumble first. Anyway about 80~90% of the cases are PMC and the rest are mixed. A casual...

    Favorite H380 loads

I bought some used reloading stuff and in the lot was 2 cans of H380 one full and the other a bit more than 3/4 full. I've never used this power so I'm asking if anyone here can recommend some loads for it. I shoot .223 rem, .243 Win, .308 win, 7.7x58mm Arisaka, 7.5mm Swiss, and .30-06... Any...

    Gun running (past the wife)

I brought home a varmint rifle today that was too good of a deal to pass up. I also made sure that I got home at a time when my wife was still at work. I'm self-employed so I can set my own hours. While I was tucking it into the safe I got to thinking, how bad of a husband am I? It's not...

Any one have any experience with a Rossi Wizard Single shot rifle?

Supposedly you can get a variety of center fire, rim fire and shotgun barrels that are all 100% interchangeable. For now I'm only interested in one caliber (.454 Cas.) but I wouldn't rule out a couple barrels later on. I'm wondering how good of a shooter these rifles are... Tony
