    Fridays are for casting!

Today, I got out the MP 359640 and gave a look at the penta pins. And after looking closely at these things..... I was thinking ... "There's no way these are gonna let go of a bullet. It looks like he whittled 'em out with a skillsaw!" So I decided to install 'em anyway and try it. I took the...

    Thursday, with lead

I got out the NOE again today and made much better friends with it this time. A little dab of MP lube on the pins made the bullets just jump right off. I had to touch the pins again with a Qtip (very lightly dampened) with sprue plate lube about every 150 bullets and it made casting just so much...

    loaded wadcutters

We've had lots of pics of our wadcutters and molds. Let's see how some of em look loaded. Here is the Turtle Buster (using two different pins) that I'm loading today. The 147gr and the 161gr. Fortunately for the turtles, it's 51 degrees with a 20mph wind, so they are safely buried in the mud...

    Today's 4-cav HP experience

Well, today I got out the NOE 360160WFN RG4 mold and gave it a whirl. And I learned a few things. First..... a 4 cav brass mold is heavy.;) Next, the silly b̶o̶o̶l̶i̶ bullets stick to the pins much worse than a nice twist-n-pull single cav pin casting, and more than a Cramer style too. Or...

A great day with the 1860

This is how it has been going today..... 6 in 1 big ol' hole, one hand, 30± feet. (I don't have a mark, I just stand and draw). Now, of course not all were touching in every can today, some cans had em scattered around, but I did have more than a couple of cans with one big ragged hole at the...

What's cookin' in the pot today?

It's my newest bullets! I just got the mold back from the machinist yesterday. It's a 358665 DC with a pin in one side. And it just spews forth nice silver bullets. :) This is the pan I did before lunch.... and I did another like it after lunch. I figger there's probably 600± total, just by...

Made something for the Blackhawk to eat today.

I made about 300 HPs today, and it took forever with the single cav. I have never tried making more than a handful at a time before with the singles. I'm definitely dragging a chair out to the casting table the next time I decide to make a pile of these. (Straight isotope 95-2.5-2.5) And I...

53°, Sunny, with a 100% chance of smoke.

It's Saturday here. That means it's time for shooting! :D Finish that coffee and grab your irons. Somebody, go set some cans up on that fence, and let's have some fun!:)

    Just in time for Christmas

Seasonal bullet lube! (It's just my standard bp lube of 50/50 beeswax and olive oil, and one colored crayon.) The green is starting to solidify, so it's mottled for the moment. Happy Holidays!!! (oh, and a special thanks to the member who provided the beeswax!!)

1st time playing with the 358430s

These are from a custom mold (not my own), based on the 358430. This mold is a little different in that the original Lyman had 3 lube grooves and no crimp groove, and this custom one has 2 lube grooves and a crimp groove. It's a pretty neat looking bullet and weighs in at a whopping 195 grains...

    HPs, solids, and. . . . these!

Check out the nifty thing that happens if the mold is closed while still upside down and the flat pins don't get a chance to seat flush, it makes these really wicked noses that isn't quite a meplat but isn't quite a hollow point. (right side of pic) :D (It might already have a name and I didn't...

    The "Turtle Buster"

I'm pretty excited about this new addition. This was a 358432 160gr mold that I had HP'd to make an awesome 137gr HP for just plinking cans or paper or turtles (if you got a problem with em ;)) I just got it back from getting the pins in it, so I haven't gotten to load any of em yet, but this...

    NOE 360-160 wfn hp

These are almost too pretty to shoot. A friend gave them to me to try out and so I loaded a bunch of em up last night. I own a Lee pot and an extension cord, and have some lead and a single cav WC mold somewhere in the mail, so I'm not quite at this level of expertise. ;) But will be one day...

    Recognize this bullet?

I was digging in a box today and came across a tiny glass jar with a bullet in it. The jar has "1866" written in small letters on the label in ink. This bullet is obviously a rimfire, and measures 0.406 by my caliper. Somebody gave it to me many years ago and I just unearthed it today while...

    Suddenly curious about wedges.

I'm looking over the auctions today (because it's pouring rain here ) and have just noticed that the wedges on the rifles are inserted apparently randomly from both sides. Does that matter? Being new to sidelock ownership, I hadn't thought about it. Both of mine are from the left, but...

    The Dragoon thread

Let's see the dragoons. Post your favorite(s) in your collection, big and small. This is my trusty Walker (Uberti). I bought it new in 1991 and it has been nothing but a joy to own and shoot since it arrived. And on this one, maybe I got lucky, but the loading lever has never dropped during a...

    There's a new Colt in town. . . .

This is exciting for me. A Signature Series 1860. I have always wanted one and I can hardly wait to try it out! Tomorrow, it goes to the range for the first of many, many shots. :D

They had me interested until I saw there was no adjustable spout.

If you are heading off to the reenactment this weekend with your arquebus, and you don't have one of these . . . well, be prepared to look embarrassed.:o http://www.amazon.com/George-Dragon-Slayer-Powder-Flask/dp/B0031AM37Y/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1331392625&sr=8-8
