The effect of heavy charges on a brass frame

You often here the admonition against heavy charges in brass-framed revolvers because it can harm the frame. This picture clearly illustrates the damage that can happen when heavy charges batter the back of the cylinder against the frame. Photo by Maggs. Frame by Doc Hoy. Steve

Shot my Colt Walker this weekend.

So after our N-SSA skirmish was over this weekend I was able to try out my Uberti Colt Walker. I loaded up some .454 round ball with 50 grains of 3F Shuetzen (which I hate - very dirty powder). I would have tried 60 grains but it won't fit in my plastic tubes for making up cartridges. Recoil...

Safety pins on back of cylinder?

My Pietta 1860 has 6 safety pins to engage the hammer slot. But my Uberti Walker has only 1. Should it have 6? Steve

    Synthetic flints?

So I'm assuming that modern flint locks still use traditional stone flints. Are there any synthetic flints that can be purchased in bulk or last longer or are superior to knapped flint? Steve

got my Pedersoli P58 dialed in.

So yesterday I went to the range with another batch of bullets to try and find a good combination for my Pedersoli P58 Enfield. It's got a 1:48 twist with 5 grooves. I had previously tried the RCBS-Hodgdon, which keyholed, and the Lyman 575213 PH, which drops at .575 and I need a .578 bullet...

Shot my 1860 Army and 1858 Remy today (pictures)

So I finalized my carving on my new replacement 1860 Army sight today. I'm not getting very good groups with it though. Here are the results of shooting it off the bench and off hand: http://imgur.com/a/08tMF I also shot my 1858 Remington. Off the bench it shoots a single hole in the paper...

    Pattern for 1860 Army holster?

So I've got some leather, and I've done some leatherwork in the past. Many of the 1860 Army holsters look very simple to make. Especially the ones with no flap - you just fold the leather in half and stitch it closed. Does anyone know of a source for a pattern? Thanks, Steve

Just ordered a Pietta 1860 Army

I got a $200 bonus at work and one of the places we could spend it was Cabela's. So of course I used it towards a Pietta 1860 Army! Steve

Got my Richmond Carbine sited in yesterday!

Looks like it likes 44 grains of FFF Goex with a RCBS Hodgdon bullet sized to .576. I can do 3" groups at 50 yards and 5" groups at 100 yards. Steve

FC 10 or FC 10 Match reload problems?

So I've run across some brass that looks to be .45 ACP, but it is headstamped as either FC 10 or FC 10 MATCH. I am having a hard time seating primers in them, as there is a step leading into the primer pocket instead of a nice radius/chamfer as found on most brass. So far I've weeded out about...

Observations on the Lee Pro 1000

Back in 2000 my dad bought me a Lee Pro 1000 progressive reloader with a .45 ACP die set. I didn't do anything with it for 10 years. But I've been reloading with it for the last 3 years, and I think it's a great value for the money, but it has some troubling quirks I thought I would share...

Display plaques I made for my 1851 "navy" pistols

I gave one of these to my Dad a few years ago, and he never shot it and gave it back to me. They are really cheap pistols, I think they were like $150 in a starter kit. Turns out they are .44 caliber, which is incorrect for 1851 Navies, and so I can't use them in N-SSA shooting. So I turned...
