Give me your thoughts on this group..

This is a 5 shot group. A cluster of 2 (.19) and an 1" away a cluster of 3 (.29). The interesting data point is how it was fired. I fired the first 2 shots (.19) and then there was a cease fire. Targets were changed, maybe 10min later range was hot and I fired the next 3. I didn't have any...

Did ruger copy Hamilton Bowen ?

Been looking at Rugers new RedHawk 45colt/45acp and I have read mixed reviews. So I wanted to see what it may cost for a trigger job and possibly some tuning. I went to Hamilton Bowens site and stumbled on to his alpine conversion. This looks exactly (minus the sights) like Rugers new RedHawk...

I post this as an FYI. I dry fire my handguns regularly, and don't use snap caps. I've never had a problem till today when I went to the range with my sr9 and discovered a broken firing pin. I'm calling ruger tomorrow and will be getting snap caps for 9mm. Just posting to help someone else...

    Looking for 34MM rings

Recently purchased a Bushnell Ellie 4.5-30x50, 34MM tube to put on my ruger mkii. The rifle has been rebarrelled with a heavy barrel from hart. I purchased the only 34MM rings I could find, leupold high. They aren't high enough. Probably about .050 -.1 to low. I've searched and can't find any...

    Bad news for stag arms

Looks like some poor recording tracking and other documentation problems have come back to haunt stag. This says they will be sold, and the owner will lose his ffl and ability to remain in the firearms business. Hopefully they will remain in ct and no one will lose their jobs. Neither is...

    Quickload question.

Looking to find a few bullet choices that will provide optimum stability. Rifle is 22-250 w 1:12. When I use the Berger twist calculator most of the bullets I punch in have come up with a stability factor of .9-1.2, only 1 was closed to the 1.5 target. So the question is, will quickload give me...

CMP 1911s ...1/3 of the way there

Earlier there was a post, I believe from kraigwy, that he visited CMP and saw crates of 1911s and that some day down the road CMP may sell them if there is a change in legislation. I received an email today from CMP that the bill allowing this sale has passed the house and is moving to the...

    Mini 14 experiment ..

About a year ago I purchased a mini as an inexpensive shooter with resemblances to my garand or m1a. After attempting to work up some reloads, not surprisingly, my accuracy was unacceptable. I sent it ruger who replaced almost everything including the barrel. Though the photocopied target...

    High extreme spread...

I have a very short barrel on my mini, 16.5" with the muzzle break so probably 14.5" barrel. Chronograph readings were >100fps spread and high sd. Initially I tried 24.5gr of 4064, lc brass and 55 gr Fimj. I was thinking the es variation was from to slow a burning powder for that length of...

Garand trigger assy hard to latch..

3 months ago I bought a 308 garand from cmp. I shot it regularly for a month and then out it away with the trigger assy in latched as I do w my other two garands. This past weekend I took it to the range to shoot it and I could not get the trigger assy to latch with the usual force. Ultimately...

Relay your Shooting w bifocals experience

So I had an awakening moment this last weekend at the range. For months I have been struggling with my vision. Many of my rifles are irons only and I much prefer to shoot with irons. Many are also carbine length. I am diabetic and my vision seems to change from day to day a bit. I'd frequently...

Handloader magazine... I'm trying to like this rag

In the June 2015 issue there is an article on imr4166, since I have been considering moving from 4064 to 4166 I was anxious to read the article. In the second paragraph the author states, referencing the introduction of new powders, " what makes this more than a ho-hum announcement is the fact...
