Value request for a Colt SA (Bisley)

I am trying to purchase a Colt Single Action Bisley from a friend and would appreciate some opinions as to value. Caliber is 32 WCF and the SN is in the 288 thousand range and the number on the grip, cylinder and frame match. Grips are original Colt and the barrel is 4 5/8" long. It appears as...

Info request on an old Colt.

I have a friend with a firearm that he might sell me. It is a Colt SAA (first gen I hope) Bisley in 32-20. I have not yet seen the gun. Please tell me what to look for in trying to determine what it might be worth. If you have a range of value to offer, I'd be interested to hear it too. Thanks.

    I found a 'prize' I think

I just purchased from a private party an original .303 Mark 5 Jungle Carbine stamped 3/45. Wood is a bit dinged up but still has the original finish on it and the bore is great. With the gun, I also got a few over 300 rounds of ammo from '60 and '75. I was tickled to get it all for $300...

    Colt recall experience

I have a Colt New Agent subject to a recall. I sent the gun away (via FedEx) on July 30. It came back on August 5 with the new parts installed. Good, fast service and they paid shipping both ways. Check the Colt site for the recall information if you have a Colt that might be involved.

    Firearms with preban 'hicaps'

Now, understand I am not asking if 'you' have them or not, but I just wonder how many of us own firearms accompanied with preban 'hicap' magazines and how many of us own more than one of those. For instance, I 'know somebody' who owns three such handgun/magazine combos and also owns two such...

    media and younger shooter

The media is heavily hyping the younger of the 2 shooters as being 'under the influence', 'intimidated by', 'dominated by', etc. by the older of the two. Just laying the groundwork for a 'quick shrink' fix and release into the rest of the world. Gone is the outrage for the killings of the poor...

    Desert Eagles

I got to handle a Desert Eagle in .357 Mag caliber today. That is one HUGE hunk of iron! I understand they are also available in .44 mag, 50 AE and maybe other calibers. How is the quality, accuracy, reliability of these artillery pieces? I shouldn't think recoil would be much of a problem...

    Another Marine goes home

We are rapidly loosing "The Greatest Generation". A WWII Marine Vet on my aquaintance has just passed on to his reward. I did not know him well, but I knew him to be very intellegent, an avid reader, tough as nails and I respected him greatly. His last few years have been tough, but he was a...

Malfunction! How do I fix it?

I have some experience with 1911's but am no expert. This am, while shooting one of mine, I had a malfunction that I have not exerienced before. The gun fired, extracted, ejected, fed a new round but the hammer followed the slide to half-cock position. It functioned as advertised for 3 more...

    One shot stop

Incident in Little Rock, AR-facts 'gleaned' from news casts and some facts are not yet clear. Perp is involved in multiple incidents which result in calls to local police department. Three female officers finally make contact with perp who was reported to have been armed though no weapon was...

    What to do with Avila?

    A. Avila apparantly kidnapped, molested and killed Samantha Runnion. AND YET---a few years ago, he was accused of molesting 2 other girls. HE WAS AQUITTED by a jury. The prosecution apparantly did not present other girls who also said he had molested them, did not present a school official to...

    Question on 'old model' Rugers

I understand that Ruger used to make a "Security Six", a "Service Six" and (maybe even) a "Speed Six". I also understand that they were precursors of the current "GP 100" type Rugers. Were the older Ruger editions different in construction from each other or were they just the same gun but...

    Baby's back home!

A while back, I bought one of those guns at a gun show that 'calles your name'---you guys know what I mean. It was a colt officers model all steel .45. Loved the lil gun. Shoots well. Bacame my favorite ccw piece. Had my 'smith undercut the trigger guard a little, give it a gentle dehorn job...

    Safe water in hunting camp

This fall I will be hunting in a camp with water that is 'suspect' (isn't it all now?). Will be there about a week. Can anybody tell me exactly how to purify water with iodine? How much water with how much iodine? How long must it set before it is then safe to use? For the weeks worth of water...

    What spare ammo for ccw?

I carry concealed-1911A1 varient in .45 ACP. I carry it with a good quality 230 gr JHP. What about the spare mags' ammo? Figuring that if I run thru one mag without solving the problem and have to reload, the assailants may be behind cover (I will if possible!) and that any innocents in the...

    Sent my ccw off today

I have a Colt Officers Model that I use for carry. Nice gun, good shooter. I left her at the smith's today. Getting a relief cut under the trigger guard, getting fitted for night sights, mag well beveled and sharp edges rounded a little. Then it's gonna be given light bead blasting and a coat...

    CCW and the 'clean' gun

How many rounds would you shoot through your carry gun before you felt you 'had' to clean it in order to be able to depend on it in an emergency? Secondly, do you carry your gun immediately after cleaning and lubing or would you prefer to put a couple of magazines full through it to insure all...

    "Haunted" gun show

Went to small gun show this weekend. Heard this strange voice: 'take me home!'. Kept looking till I found out what it was. T'was a Colt Officers model .45 series 80. Just HAD to rescue it! Got it home: Shoots exactly to point of aim, very accurate and ate everything I fed it! Love the lil gun...

    car carry question

I carry a Kimber compact in a Milt Sparks Summer Special. Very concealable IWB and quite comfortable. However, when in a car, it is a little hard to access. I have a cross-draw holster which works well in the car-but is not very concealable when you get out to gas up, eat, etc. Question: Does...

    Concealed carry and the rain

I have been carrying for a while now and having found the gun, the holster and proper cover clothing, I find that concealment is easier than I had thought at first. I can carry with a very lightweight covering garment without 'flashing'. However, I wonder how some of you might handle being...
