    Herter's Dies???

I have a few Herter's dies. I don't recall how I came into them. Is Herter's still in business? Anyone else have experience with them? The 38/357 sizing die does have a THICK tungsten carbide (T/C) ring. Tried a few sizings on the Lee APP. It finished with the last 1/8th inch, near the base...

    38 Special +P

A dilemma. I have several hundred cases of Speer 38 Special +P, even some +P+. What should I do with them; load to full +P levels or stay at standard 38 Special. All my 38's except for a tiny little Rossi are +P capable. I want to use 158 gr LRN, powder coated, with either W231 or HP38 powders...

Posting as "Civil Rights": Call from CDC

Heads (ears) UP. Got a call this afternoon from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). It was a telephone survey inquiring as to the number of children in the household that had vacinations. They inquired of two catagories: children 0-4 and those under 18. I did not answer the call as it was an...

    38 Special +P+

Looking to load a few (100) 38 Special +P+. I will be using a 125 gr Hornady 125 grain XTP. The Hornady manual has no suggestions for +P+. It does list a +P warning at the maximum loading. I have HP38/W231 and Unique on hand for powder. Rounds will be dedicated to my .357 revolvers ONLY; S&W...

    Gun Show attendance

Gun Show in NE TN this weekend. Attendance was about a 1/4th of normal. All tables were sold and most regular vendors were present. Just very light traffic. Was more like a Sunday morning. A lot of foot traffic was "selling". Did see an unusual number of females buying "hardware". Coronovius-19...

7.62x39 SKS and Mini 30 with LEAD boolits

Just acquired an SKS along with my son's Mini-30. I load for a Moisin-Nagant 7.62 with IMR 4227. It is my ONLY rifle powder. I use a Lee 185 grain with wheel weights for the Moisin (and a Lee-Enfield). I would like to use either the Lee 185 or a Lee 160 grain lead "pill" over IMR 4227. I can...

    303 British, IMR 4227, 150 gr lead

I have a good load for a Lee 180 gr lead round. 20.4 grains of IMR 4227. I use the same load in my Moisin Nagant carbine. NOW: I want to use a 150 lead LEE but can find no load data. Can I still use the 20.4 grains of IMR 4227? I only "kill" paper and steel. Not looking for a hunting load or...

Smith & Wesson 669 sight replacement

Thirty two years ago I got my first firearm, a used Smith & Wesson 669. It was OK. I've had hundreds of firearms since. But, the old 669 is still on hand. But, my eyes have diminished just a bit. The sights are just to small; and, are integral to the slide. What are the recommendations for a...

    Dillon 550b primer seating

Loading Winchester brass, 45ACP. Not from same lot, # of firings unknown. Loaded 10, using CCI primers, all OK. Next one in the primer feed "felt" OK but the primer was just a touch pround. I then prepped all primer pockets on a Lyman case prep machine, never had to do this on pistol brass...

.38 SUPER, where did it go?

What happened to the .38 Super? Wasn't it considered to be the acp version of the .357? All these new calibers that have come up in the past 30 years, 10mm, 41 magnum, .50 AE, .460 Ruger, etc. I do a fair amount of reloading and don't see much "buzz" on those forums about the .38 Super either...

What DID the Founding Fathers really mean?

I recently had interaction with a younger member of our society. They posed this platform for which I have meager reply. "The framers of the Constitution had never even imagined assault weapons that can slaughter hundreds of people in mere minutes. --- Their wording related to private citizens...

    Price check on aisle two??

Got a flyer from Cabella's. They advertised a M14 A1 "tanker model" for $1495. Looked pretty good. Then in paper today my LGS advertised a M14 A1 @ $1095. Question is Springfield suddenly dumping the M14 models. I don't believe I have ever seen a new one lower than $1595. I've always wanted one...

    FightLite SCR 5.56

Took some "lead therapy" yesterday after an extended FaceBook anti 2nd Amendment discourse. Found a unique semi-auto "handgun". The FightLite SCR Raider 5.56. Interesting? Never seen it in any periodical. Anyone with experience/knowledge of this semi-automatic hand gun?

    Confusion

Had to jump out to the local gun store after a real "round" with a Face Book 2nd Amendment antagonist. Needed some "lead" therapy even if vicariously. Found two nice S&W revolvers: a 32 Winchester WCF @ $399 and a 32-20 @ $1099. What is the difference in the two rounds? I've developed an "itch"...

    Taurus replacing my revolver

Sent a model 94 Ultralite back for repair. The crane screw hole in the frame failed. Repair not undertaken by Taurus. Company is offering $497 for the model 94 against any revolver in their line. The 94 is out of production. What do I get? I am not familiar with the Taurus line. Suggestions? I...

1861 Colt black powder muzzle loader rifle

1861 Colt black powder muzzle loader rifle. Found one of these at a local show today. It "intrigues" me. I have several "smoke poles" in my arsenal already. I know it is a reproduction, but looks unfired. Asking was $650 w/o bayonet. Any inputs welcomed.

Good Guy With A Gun Prevails

13 Feb. Kingsport, TN: Domestic discord resulted in death of estranged spouse and critical wounding of perpetrator. But, a licensed TN Handgun Permit Holder rose from his dental treatment chair and ended the assault on other staff and patrons. The Sullivan County Sheriff had accolades for the...

    Smith & Wesson Shield .45 ACP, ???????

I had pretty well decided on a Glock 30S for my next CCW. It offered all that I was looking for. Then, I "discovered" the S&W Shield 45. I was impressed with how it feels. And it is a LOT smaller than a Glock 30S. Plus, it carries almost the same round count. Who out there has actually shot a...

    Rossi .357 - sticky chamber

New to me older Rossi revolver model M971, blued. It is a fine shooting revolver with both 38 and 357. It has one sticky chamber the requires a good tap from a "range" hammer for extraction. I started to get familiar with the gun with 38's. No problems. Stepped up to .357's, and found a single...

    Trauma Kit?

I have lots of "trauma" creators but for trauma care I only have band-aids and aspirin. What/where are sources for a bare minimum trauma kit? We have burglar alarms, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers but how many have given real thought to a medical emergency?
