    Need Cor-Bon 90gr 9x19mm 4" barrel velocity data

I want to compare the 6g (93gr) EMB bullet in terms of energy with the 90gr Corbon in 9x19mm. The EMB has the following data: Velocity: v10 = 1361ft/sec (415 m/s, mean value) from a 4" (100mm) barrel (source) What is the v10* of Cor-Bon's 90gr 9x19mm bullet fired from a 4" barrel? (and what's...

When and what with teach kids to shoot?

my 3.5 year old wants to learn how to shoot. So I wonder what would be the right age to teach her and what would be a suitable "gun" I surely would never use a firearm for that purpose. An airgun maybe. But which one? CO2, BB....? I have no clue about these "guns"...

EMB-Bullets (former Hirtenberger, now Fiocchi) any experience

In search for the perfect delf defense ammo (perferably in 9x19mm) I have found this: The EMB, "EXPANSIONS - MONOBLOCK BULLET". Looks like a great concept. Penetrates hard targets without expanding. Expands in soft targets. No hollowpoint. More info here. Do any of you have experience with...

What did you shoot with 9x19mm pistols and with what effect?

Title says all. I have heared a lot from 17 hits to a wild boar "with no effect" to one shot stop against cattle. What are your personal 1st-hand experiemces of 9x19mm against game? (please also specify ammunition used and shot placement). Thanks.

EFMJ: .45 beats 9x19mm regarding energy by 36%, how about penetration/expansion?

I found something out that makes me think about changing from 9x19mm to .45. I believe the EFMJ bullet design to be the best we can get (at least where HPs are illegal). What stunned me is the follwowing data from Federal: 9x19mm+P 124gr EFMJ: 1120ft/sec; 345ft/lbs (467 Joule), (4" barrel)...

EFMJ vs Hollow Point or other designes for self defense ammo

I like the EFMJs and tested them myself (online results) Now I have read and seen more and more on this fine ammo and I can't imagine any other cartridge I should prefer over the 9x19mm EFMJ for self defense purposes. What do you think? Would you prefer a Hydra-Shok or Ranger or something else...

weak hand indicator finger on trigger bar rest?

I wonder what you people out there think about the following: I have small hands and I have the feeling that I control my Glock 19 better when I grab it with my weak hand's indicator finger on the little rest on the trigger bar. Some people told me not to do it. Nobody could say why not...

There is a trigger-finger-trainer, but where?

In my IPSC-club we have a guy who ist so extremely fast with his trigger finger that there is only one solution to catch-up: I need to repeatedly train my trigger finger for speed and power. A triger-finger-workout if you will. So, this can be done best while driving. I remember seeing...

    Glock 19 (9x19mm) or 23 (.40)?

I am going to buy another gun. The last remaining competitors are the Glock 19 (I have two already) and the Glock 23 (same, but .40 instead of 9x19mm) As I was before I bought the other two G19s, I am still wondering, whether I should buy the gun in .40. But as back then, I still see no...

Backup knife: fixed blade, double edged, horizontal sheath. Any suggestions?

Hi there, I am looking for a knife that meets the above criteria. By now I have one knife in my mind: I'd prefer a shorter blade (3" is well enough)...

Hearing damage after firing 9x19mm indoors?

OK, we'ver had these threads on .357 Mag. and .44 Mag. They reportedly did damage some ears indoors. But what about the 9x19mm? I had to fire mine outside once. I didn't hear the actual blast (auditory exclusion) but I did have a strange stress-feeling in my ears for about five minutes. My ears...

Which .357 Magnum, 4", 7-shot (or 6-shot) revolver to get as a carry weapon?

Title says all. I am looking for a .357 Magnum revolver with a 4" Barrel and at least 6-shots, better 7. Weight is an issue. Reliability is crucial. There is a real specific threat and I do carry 24/7... as of now I consider a S&W 520 or Ruger GP-141 or even S&W 329PD in .44 Mag? Thanks for...

Reliability, carry weapon: Glock 19 or .357 Mag 7-shot revolver

I recently had several malfunctions (faliures to extract) with a pretty new Glock 19. It might have been new nontox-ammo I use, but anyway it is a pretty bad feeling to hold a gun that goes "click" only or not even that. So I figure: Maybe a 7-shot .357 Magnum revolver with a 4" barrel would be...

I am about to buy a Steyr AUG-Z (semi-Auto, .223, 43 rounds magazines) as a home-defense rifle. Any reasons not to do so? Thank you for your time and thought.

Lead (etc) - free ammo or not? And which one?

Since I do care about lead as a health risk (even below 1100 ft/sec), I decided to train with non-tox, lead-free etc, ammo. I used the S&B-Nontox stuff so far. It obviosly is not as reliable as the usual stuff, but I don't get that funny taste in my throat after or while shooting. Do you know...

What to do if knife-assailant returns after jail and doesn't attack immediately?

I have posted the first part of the story before. Unfortunately it is true and I have to deal with it: A colleague in my lawfirm was stabbed in the head several times last November. He was "lucky" because the bad guy's folding knife broke after some strikes. My colleague survived. Thanks to...

Does humid air increase or decrease lead dust health hazard?

I shoot at a rather poorly ventilated range. It's a rather huge cellar and very humid. I wonder whether the extreme humidity down there might reduce the health risk from lead dust because the humid air might prevent the dust from dusting? Any experts out there? Thanks and stay safe and sound.

Lightest and smallest .38+P revolver for concealed carry?

The tactical range for the specific situation is 3yds, no more. The person to carry is at high personal risk but can't shoot. So speedrock drills will be all he might learn quickly enough. The title says the rest. Please share your opinion with me. Thanks a lot and stay safe.
