Virginia County Aims to Ban Lights on Private Property

Perhaps not entirely gun related, but certainly self-defense and household security related: http://www.americanpolicy.org/newswire/main.htm

IDPA - Tracking Progress without PAR times

I just got the results from my first complete match.. Anybody have any ideas on how to come up way to track my progress? This course had no PAR time... I'm thinking about just taking the Average of all times and comparing my time to that as a start.. of should I use the Median? I doubt mode...

    IDPA Speedloader holders

I'm currently using simple nylon velco cover speedloader holders, and I'd like to upgrade to something a bit faster.. I noticed safariland had some that looked pretty good, but their description for what it fits doesn't make any sense and their support wasn't any help either. I'm using HKS...

    S&W Model 65 frame 'letter'?

I'm trying to figure out if my speedloaders will fit a particular holder, it says medium 6-shot, N-Frame S&W and some other. the S&W website says the Mod 65 is a medium frame, is this different from the 'lettered' frames? Sorry, don't know the S&W frame sizing stuff at all...it fits me or not ;-)

Connection between gun rights and right to life

The 'official' Republican party platform extols gun rights and the right to life. I've often wondered if these two things tend to go 'hand in hand' with real people as they do with the R party. I know this is a holy war topic.. I'm probably opening up a can of worms that perhaps should be left...

    Holder for HKS Speedloader 10-A

I'm interested in the Safariland CD-2 speedloader holder (http://shop.optemize.com/shop/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=Holsters&Category_Code=MCD-2) looks pretty fast. But, for some odd reason they describe what will fit by the gun the speedloader is made for...seems odd as the gun doesn't...

Pistol for Wife without too much hand/arm strength

My wife just can't reliably or quickly rack my Makarov (yeah, a bit heavy), she's also tried a S&W Mod 39-2 9MM that I wouldn't consider to be excessive. What models/manufacturers would you suggest for ease of slide operation? We're just getting into IDPA (SSR for now), and I'd love to get my...

Looking for Handgun SD Attorney in NorthEast Ohio

Don't need one yet, but all the experts say you gotta get one. Alternately, does anybody have suggestions on screening lawyers for this purpose? If this should be in Legal & Political, feel free to move it

Ohio BulletFest - anybody else make it?

There's nothing like a hundred or so people blasting away at varying rates of fire (single shot .50 all the way up to minigun). Didn't get close enough to really check out the minigun, looked like .223 and I hear it was mounted on an ATV. I don't think I'll ever forget hearing that monster...

IDPA SSR tac Reload speed, method

I've read (somewhere) that suggested doing reload with retension all the time so that you don't have to think about it. That adds a couple of steps to SSR (from what I can tell): ie: dump rounds into hand, drop rounds in pocket, smack the ejecter (in case any are stuck)... I just finished...

1-day womans SD course, cause more harm than good?

Just looking for opinions. A local kickboxing center has apparantly been giving one or two day womans SD courses. This seems more like a means to recruit more students than any meaningful SD training. They do appear to be focusing on grappling defense, but from my viewpoint this type of thing...

    EAA Windicator Report

Just thought I'd mention that I put together a fairly detailed and objective (I think at least ;-) report on the EAA Windicator in .357 with 2" barrel. It's posted at http://www.handloads.com/articles/windicator/index.html if anybody is interested. I'd put it here, but it's a bit long and I...

New Mexico court strikes down CCW!

AAAUUUG. I haven't been able to get the whole scoop on this, looks like a press release from HCI http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/020605/180/1ndrh.html Anybody in NM have more info?

    Reasonably priced 22 semi-auto rifle

I've got a friend who wants to get an AR-10 or AR-15, he's never done much shooting before so I convinced him to start with a .22 so he can get a ton of practice in for cheap. Out here is looks like Ruger 10/22, Remington 597 and Savage models are almost always on sale. Any comments on...

    Removing cylinder from taurus tracker

I'd like to remove the cylinder on my wife's tracker for easier cleaning/soaking. But I'm not totally sure how it comes off, I don't have too much wheelgun experience. The last one I remember removing was on a really old S&W .455 Webley and all I had to do was unthread the extractor. I've...

    EAA Windicator for IDPA SSR

The rules specifically mention the Windicator in backup gun class, I don't see any reason I couldn't use one in SSR as it's 6-shot .357. I know the list in the rules in non-inclusive, just thought it was odd that they mention the windicator in backup class. tia.

    Rossi 461 IDPA legal holsters?

I'm thinking about getting a Rossi 461 for shooting wheelgun class. Probably a lot of people don't like Rossi (I've heard it all from junk to good)... My reasoning is I want a short 6-shot and everybody else makes all their snubbies in 5-shot. Does anybody know off hand of IDPA legal holsters...

IDPA: Just shot first COF - now looking for 9mm revolver ;-)

My wife and I just went out to a local IDPA shoot, a friend was SO'ing and let us slip in some shooting (me with my Makarov, wife with taurus..both guns not really IDPA 'legal'). It was a gas, my wife is very interested in getting involved (which is a good thing). So, I was talking to a guy...

Taurus Tracker 627ss4 - what's the screw in the butt for

We purchased this gun new, I figured the manual would say why it came with a hex wrench.. But the manual didn't seem to be up to date with this particular model. There is a hex bolt in the butt, I have a feeling it might be to adjust the main spring tension? If that's the case, it would...

Taurus 605 (without porting) good for IDPA

I don't see any reason it wouldn't be, it is only 5-shot. I noticed that the Taurus 85 is in their "non-inclusive" list, and it's a 5-shot as well. Obviously the optional porting would be right out. Thought I'd see if anybody would venture an opinion on this.
