ALL CAPS in Title failed, even when edited.

In posting a reply to an existing thread, I typed a title as "T.A.N.S.T.A.A…" which was rendered T.a.n.s.t.a.a…." when posted. Two attempts to edit failed to correct the situation. Any suggestions?

NRA books "The Hunters Guide" and "Western Big Game Hunting"—Yea or Nay?

I am honorary uncle to my best friends’ kids. The ten year old has been a shooter for several years now and will soon qualify for a hunting license. The NRA offers two books which I am thinking of buying: The Hunter’s Guide and Western Big Game Hunting by Jim Zumbo. Quick reviews by any here...

    HTML codes

With one or another of the recent version upgrades to vBulletin, we lost the use of HTML codes. &# 209; without the space produces Ñ, but Ñ does not. There are a few special characters I occasionally like to use that are HTML only. Also I find it easy to remember the structure of ¾ and the...

Herrett's Custom Bill Jordan Trooper grips- Yea or Nay?

My Redhawk is a 7½ inch Hunter (KRH44R) with a Leupold 2x EER mounted over the barrel. I have gone through the factory rosewood and several aftermarket rubber grips without getting really comfortable. I am about to risk the $100+ on the custom Herrett Jordan Trooper grip. Input from anyone...

Fast advice needed: S&W Model 63 for $300- buy it?

The S&W Model 63 six shot 22. LR has a 4 inch barrel, target hammer, target sights, recessed chambers, pinned barrel, and is clean, tight, and appears little used. Is $300 a good, bad, or indifferent price for such a revolver? Edit to add: Thanks for the help folks, the M63 is now mine. :)

1911 premature slide lock: replacement slidestop?

The Springfield Armory parkerized 1911-A1 is locking prematurely when loaded with 230 grain ball, two to three times in fifty rounds. The top round on lockup has a nice bright scar from the slide stop and the stop itself has a fine telltale of copper even though the problem cannot be duplicated...

The Ooops! factor and grace period.

I just now found the window of opportunity to edit a post without the "Last edited by... " footnote is less than a minute or not open at all. As I recall the pre-vBulletin 3 Firing Line had a 20-30 minute window. My effort is to "Think twice, proof read thrice, post once or not at all," but...

    Favorites logo.

In my favorites tool, many sites self populate with a site logo: Sturm, Ruger’s phoenix(?), Springfield Armory’s indecipherable whatsit, The High Road’s vBulletin radical sign (yes, it’s probably a stylized V, but I see square roots!) I would welcome a TFL logo. A miniaturized might be tough...

TFL & copyright: cost, risks, benefits

In signing on to another forum, I agreed that I will not post copyrighted material. The phrasing was inclusive, not mentioning fair use quotes. Presumably, I have even agreed not to post material for which I hold the copyright. I do not recall such terms when registering here, and note that a...

Superposed - To tube or not

The Browning Superposed is not rated for steel shot. Briley claims to be able to install flush mount interchangeable choke tubes that will cure that, increase the versatility of the shotgun, and not diminish the value of the gun. Any thoughts?

    Home made gongs.

I have acquired a number of 9x5/8 inch steel rounds, cutouts from a fabrication project. I plan to turn them into gongs by attaching chain at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions, and have a couple of questions. I can drill holes and use shackles or weld the chain to the rounds. Welding to the edge...

Bears at 75 yds and NO "AMMO"!!!

About 75 yards uphill from my bedroom window is a rock knob with trees and bushes around its base. Today at lunch time there were three bears browsing the berries, mama and two cubs. Mama is roughly 250-300 pounds, the cubs 125-150. I did not buy a tag this year and sows with cubs, and the...

A Portland OR talk radio shtickmiester noteable for his ability to achieve high dudgeon over trivia and who has no love for Chief Moose, provided this link http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=29590 An interesting read, it is an addendum to Gary H's thread...

    I t'ought I taw a putty tat!

I live on 40 acres surrounded by another man’s 1000 acres in the Coquille River Valley. The neighbor whose land surrounds mine has brought in fallow deer. These are the ones that can be white or blond as well as the more familiar reddish brown. Well, it is rutting season for fallow deer and...

What is that second column for?

Forums and search results are presented in eight columns. Six are labeled. Of the two unlabeled columns, the far left is obvious as the folders change colors from red to read. The second column has no function I can find. Is there one? Was there one?

Mile deer, mounting lions, and others

A typo in a thread requesting opinions on cartridge selection had me thinking about hunting mile deer . That reminded me of how hard keeping a straight face used to be when my friend's son talked of mounting lions, (noted for sneaking up on you from behind!) Does anyone else have such...
