xd9 mag

So, I went to the range yesterday to play with my new xd 9. Take note that I live in Cali so any mag past 10 rounds is a big no no. The range master says I can shoot the xd with 15 or 16 rounds of 9mm with a 357 (xd I guess) mag. He actually shoved 16 rounds of 9's into that mag, the last two rounds using a mag loader. Has anybody tried it ? Is it legal ? (for Cali that is) .

I have read that the magazines are the same for the 9mm and .357sig, and are the same part numbers. I don't know about the .40 mags, and I know for sure the .45GAP and .45ACP mags are not the same as the 9mm/.357sig mags. Nor are the .45GAP and .45ACP mags the same.

In short, the 9mm and .357sig mags are alike (10rd to 10rd, high cap to high cap), perhaps .40 but unsure.
