XD Slide/Frame Height

Why do Springfield Armory XD pistols have such a thick frame/slide profile? Does the locking mechanism require a taller profile in this area? Seems that this raises the bore axis which affects recoil, flip, and follow up?

Just a guess, but a certain amount of mass is probably needed to run reliably. Glocks tend to be wide, but shorter top to bottom while XD's are narrower and taller for similar weights. It is sort of the same with magazines and grip length/width. XD's seem narrower and longer for the same mag capacity.

Personal preference I guess,but I prefer the Glock design.

I carry the XD SC and feel very confident with it as with the Glock 19 or the 26. It has the stock trigger but I had to install the 3.5# connector to the Glock to shoot it as well. I don't see any flip in either.

I prefer the feel and of the M&P but crave the reliability of the Glock.
