Even though storing ammo in a dry cool room should preserve it, and ammo cans are rel. inexpensive:

In general, about how airtight is the plastic wrap in which cases of ammo are sealed and shipped?
Does this plastic degrade after a couple of years or so and allow air to enter the case?

I have yet to see any battle packs degrade. I've seen mice and rats chew into them so there's one advantage of spam cans over battle packs. battle packs are more compact, lighter weight, and a little more flexible. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Even if storage containers deteriorate, the ammo is hardy stuff.
It takes very severe conditions to affect loaded ammo.

I've seen where moisture collects in plastic bags.

Some will vacuum seal it which will remove moisture.Use the same machine that you use for packaging venison !
