Wilson grips on SR1911

I have seen a picture of a custom Colt 1911 from the 1930's, well it is at least meant to look like it's from that era. It has a set of Wilson Combat grips on it and I absolutely love the look of that custom Colt, although I doubt I will ever be able to afford such a work of gunsmith art.

I recently bought a Ruger SR1911 and I would like to put the same Wilson Combat grips on the Ruger. Is that uncool? I'm not trying to fool anyone, I just love the look of the Wilson grips. Is it possible to swap the medallions from the Ruger to the Wilson? I have already purchased the Wilsons, but I started feeling like I was putting Caddy badges on a Chevy.... Any thoughts?

Here's a couple of pics of the look I like (not my photos... pulled from another forum) and my Ruger with the Wilson Combat grips.

The grips are great... but the old Colt is beautiful!

wilson makes some nice G10 grips, and they would sell FAR more if they offered them without their emblem. however, i guess ego trumps sales lol

nothing wrong with putting them on a non-wilson 1911 :)

also, check out VZ grips. i have them on all my 1911's.

To be honest, that's something I wouldn't do and I have no "real" reason why. It just wouldn't look right to me.

On the other hand, I have noooo problem using Wilson mags in all my 1911s. :)

Well, as someone else has said I personally would not do it. However, as someone else so eloquently put it, "Who gives a **** what someone else thinks".

There is another option you might consider. There are a large number of companies that make grips for 1911s maybe someone else makes a generic version similar to the Wilson grips you like so much. Also, many companies will make semi-custom grips and maybe one can add the Ruger logo. Just Google "1911 grips" and see what you can find.

Well, for now, the point is moot.... There was locktite (red) on the bushings on the mag release side of the frame, but surprisingly, none on the opposite side. So, it's the Wilson's for a while, at least until I can get some more bushings as I chewed the two with locktite up :barf: getting them out.

I'll post some pics and get ready for some flak....:)

I own some Wilsons ....and I don't think anyone cares what kind of grips you put on any of your guns...

but I wouldn't put Wilson grips on my Brown, or my Baer or my Kimbers either...somehow it just doesn't seem right to me ....but I could care less what anyone does with their own guns ( but like someone else said, I do run Wilson mags in all of my 1911's - regardless of who made them) .

Squared guard and frontside stippling on a National Match!?!?!?!? Oh well, to each his own. At least it was tastefully done. Not big on the ambi safety, but nice choice of beavertail.

The Ruger really looks nice with those Wilson grips, btw.

They are nice looking grips and most shooters probably won't immediately think of them as being Wilson Combat grips.

I combined two of my posts in this thread so it might actually make sense.... Sorry about "bumping" my own post.... I know that's bad form....
