Which way to mount a bipod?

May be a really stupid question.

I've a Harris bipod which I mount/affix to my rifle stocks with the legs folded towards the trigger. Just seemed natural.

Every one seen on TV has them pointed towards the muzzle.

Seems the "TV method" allows a complete rest on the stock without interferience, etc.

I dunno.

Is this more a matter of personal pref or ?

I prefer to mount mine with the legs pointing towards the muzzle. This way if you have to shoot off-hand, or rest your rifle on the forestock to shoot, there is nothing in hands way.I"ve seen them mounted both ways.I think it is more what you are comfortable with. HTH.

I concur with Skullboy.

With the legs pointing forward the is nothing in the way of your hand cradling the forestock.- Point mute if you have a really long rifle....:)

With the legs set to fold forward, they have a little "give" as the rifle recoils backward and the feet hang up on the surface you're shooting from. Kinda like shock absorbers.

i always have put them with the legs folding foreward. if the legs fold backwards and you push into your rifle when you shoot the legs can fold up and you can end up dropping the barrel in the dirt

come on now, i thought everybody knew that ;)
