Which One To Buy?

I have the opportunity to buy a Winchester Mod. 70 that was made in 1942. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 8. No scope, and the rear sight is missing. Otherwise it's very clean. Asking price is $ 900.00. Should I consider it or just buy a new Mod. 70? It's a .308 Cal.
Thanks for your input.

It can't be both 1942 and .308. The .308 cartridge came out in what, 1957?

If it was re-barrelled to .308, it's possibly a good shooter, but I'd offer maybe half the asking price...

I truthfully dont care for old rifles like that. 70-80s is ok with me but no older. Then in the 90s and early 2000s things took a dump and were junk but now I feel new rifles are as good as they have ever been

I spoke to the owner of the rifle and asked for the caliber again. He again said .308, which is what I saw when I looked at it. After doing the research, the rifle was made in 1957.

Pre 1964 M70's are the most sought after M70's.

I've seen rechambered pre 64 M70's go for $900.

Maybe find out if you can test fire it and see if it's a shooter ??
