Where can I find empirical ballistics data?

I've been re-evaluating a lot of my previous notions about the terminal effectiveness of various calibers. I realized my opinions were based on... well, not a whole lot, really. The opinions of other people and what seems like common sense. Not a firm scientific basis, and I really do strive to approach these things logically.

Now, I realize that there is no magical website or book that settles all the 9mm vs .45 5.56 vs 7.62x39 birdshot vs buckshot etc debates; obviously, or there wouldn't be such debates raging ad infinitum ad nauseum. However, I'm not asking for something to make my mind up for me, I just want to see the evidence so I can decide for myself.

So what sources of empirical evidence of ballistics performance have you all found? I'm hoping to find a mix of shooting inanimate objects (Box O' Truth, Brassfetcher) and actual reports of failure and success vs both humans and animals. I see a lot of people making claims on the forums, but actual evidence is lacking.
