Reading Peggy Noonan's book by that name, I came across a favorite anecdote of Reagan's:

USS MIDWAY on patrol in the South China Sea came across a rickety boat full of refrugees from Indochina. As MIDWAY came alongside, one man in the boat caught the eye of a sailor on the flight deck, and called out to him:

"Hello, American sailor! Hello, Freedom man!"
