when it comes to hunting i have a certain load out for ever type of game for Small game (squirrels, Rabbit, Coyote, Hogs, and anything else that is about 150lbs or less) i use a:
RIFLE: Remington 700 .243, or Marlin 336w 30-30 (30-30 mainly for hogs)
Handgun: Heritage Rough rider .22lr, Ruger 22/45, etc (Mainly any .22 handgun i own just as a last stand).
for big game (Elk , bear, moose ) my personal load out is
RIFLE: Remington 700 CDL 7mm Rem Mag.

I use a mini14 for Hogs on down to possum. With the el cheapie bushnell banner illuminated scope. I have a semi-homemade spotlight that clips to the scope. I modified the light to accept an easily found 12v h3 motorcycle bulb powered by a fanny pack with feeder batteries.

nice setup

thats a nice setup i have shot the mini 14, but i don't own one. by the way bushnell banner scopes may be cheap but they are good for a starter intill money is available for something better like a Leupold. i have a bushnell on one of my Remington 700s right know while i save for a Leupold. Bagged any hogs this year Ricky? Happy hunting.

I've had a slow year on hogs this year, but I've gotten lots of reports of hogs in the area in the last couple of weeks. Last year there was more hogs than ever. I expect with all the rain they will be full force again.

LOL, I use the cheap scopes because I fall at times Lol, and my ranges arent too far. The banners do give a decent scope for the money.

Same here. Last year i took a decent about for me, but this year i have only been out once. my Aunt owns a bunch of land and said that they are having some serious issues with hogs, so i might be getting the count up pretty soon.
Happy Hunting! :)

I use a 223 for front yard (front pasture) hunting. That's the occasional skunk, pig, and whatever. In the back pastures these days I use the 260 but sometimes take the 220. For the front yard rifle I'll be testing loads for the next couple of days. I may switch from the 65 grain Gameking to a smaller bullet like the 35 grain Nosler Nolead, the 40 grain Nosler BT or the Varmint Grenade - to make sure the bullet frags on impact with whatever it hits.

Well, I actually don't have one yet. In a week or so I plan on buying a H&R Handi Rifle in .223 and putting a 3-9x40 scope on it.

For predators here in Missouri coyotes and smaller I normally reach for Rem 700 vssf 22-250 or Rem 700 6mm bdl and if their runnin' in packs? :D I reach for either Colt A2 or A3 Hbars.

critters

I go with a T/C single shot in 7-30 Waters with 140gr Barnes sst moving out at around 2200 f/s. One shot kills on pigs with head shots.
Single shot T/C in 204Ruger for critters up to ground hogs, 32gr Nosler HP at 4000 f/s. Pfff they disappear.
From deer to black bear Marlin lever action 444 with 290gr hard cat leasd Missouri. Brutal knock down inside 100yds.

I've posted this before....... And a gratuitous pile of dead piggies.

The mini has a new stock on it now, I was beating the crap out of the wood.

My 2 main long range rifles are a Savage 10 FCP in 308 and a Savage 12 FV in .223. I use both of these for everything, and I mean litterally everything. If Im hunting I usually have one of these two in my hands.

My loads are:

Sav. model 12FV is Ultramax is Nosler Balistic Tip in 55 grain. Its taken everything from stripped gophers to deer.

Sav. model 10 FCP is winchester power point 150 grain.

These two guns with factory ammo and a Nikon prostaff 4-12x40 BDC can shoot one hole groups at 100 and they dont open up much at 300. I regularly kill p-dogs at 500+ yards with both rifles.

Now if Im horseback I usually have my Heritage Rough Rider in 357 mag or my Puma m92 in the same caliber. Ive only shot coyotes and crows with these two guns but they are my shorter range guns.

I like my .270win. The 130gr bullets will take care of anything large enough I care to shoot, and the 90gr hollowpoints will turn a fox or coyote inside out.

I have two 20 gauge guns, a 500 Mossberg and a '53 Stevens 5100 and a .22 Winchester 190 with irons...

The 20's handle all that walks or flies this continent with the right load...
Slugs for BIG game... Shot for everything else...

The .22... well there ain't much I gotta add...

my predator rifle is my current project gun. A pre-64 model 94 in .25-35. When it's finished (hopefully I live long enough ) it should fill that niche nicely.
