What would people say is the best AR-10 variant? For long-distance accuracy, (relatively) light weight, ease of use, and design?
I would like to eventually (say maybe next year) get a nice semi-auto .308 for long distance target shooting. My preference has always tended to lean towards an M1A or another accurized M14 clone, but the AR-10 models are attractive too, and I wanted to make sure I was comparing apples to apples when I looked at price and features. My use would be targets ranging from 100 to 1000 yards, as well as a certain amount of lugging the thing through the woods. I'm assuming a 22 inch barrel on each of them.
I'm kind of partial to the M1As based on the looks (I've probably seen too many World War II documentaries and movies) and it seems like there's more M14 style accessories available than there are for the AR-10 type rifles. But I want to be fair.
