what kind of sights do you have on your 22?

I bought a marlin 60 and someone here said I should get new sights as the ones stock were crap. Shooting out to about 75 yards I wish I had a smaller front sight. I dont know enough about sights to know what would be better.

if anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear them, although I cant see myself spending more then $30 or $40 for new sites.

Thanks
Horatio

For that price I'd be looking at used scopes. A little shopping should find a 4 power fixed with rings and base.

I used to shoot a standard 4X until I ended up with some extra scopes from trades. .22LR is a lot more fun now. I'm currently shooting a 3X9 that I scarfed from a 30-06 on my fav. .22. The mounts took some effort, had to buy them from the gunshop, worth every penny.

I use iron sights on all my .22s with the exception of my old Winchester 61. It has a vintage weaver 4X. I find iron sights useful out to 100 yards depending on the target. I especially like the aperture sight on my Winchester 69A.

Peeps on the bolt action 22lr's and scope on the .22wmr.
You should be able to get a Williams peep for that 60 (groove mount) that will be a great improvement over the factory irons.

Fixed 4x Tasco on extra low mounts. I had a 4-16x44 with target turrets for shooting beyond 150yds. It was too much work to carry in the woods though (too many widgets), so now the old fixed 4X is back.

I'll stick with the long guns since it seems that is what you are asking about.

One has an inexpensive 4x Tasco
One has a fairly nice Bushnell though I can't remember the model
and my Henry is just plain old iron sights.

If the only problem is that the front sight is too thick, why don't you try to file it down a little thinner? If you're looking for a replacement rear site, you can get a Williams Peep for between $30-$85 depending on the style and how much you want to spend. You can also find replacement rear sights that would fit in the existing rear sight dovetail. You've just got to look around a bit and find out what you're looking for.

My Marlin M60 just got an old weaver KV installed because the Tasco lost the ability to hold zero; common for a $25 scope. The KV is a bit bulky, but it's right on dead center 1/4" high at 25 yards and will be the bain of any treerat that sits still long enough. My old Remington 511 wears a Weaver K4 with the fine crosshairs; the 512 doesn't have a scope yet, but it's in the works. I can shoot daisies off the stem with the irons at 25 yards to the amazement and disbelief of my springoff; he simply can't believe his eyes. HeeHee.

Those Tech Sights for the Marlin look pretty nice. I may have to try a set when I get around to rebluing and refinishing the stock on mine.

Hmmm. The little Stevens has the factory iron sights (Patridge?). A Springfield M6 has a Truglo reflex sight. One of the .22 barrels for my T/C Contender has a Bushnell 4-8 scope. Two match rifles (an FWB and an Anschutz) have Anschutz 6805s with adjustable apertures.

I have a Marble tang sight on my 1885 Winchester.

I never liked scopes on .22s. The fact that the scope is about 1.5 inches above the bore of the rifle can make you miss a head shot on a squirrel at ground to treetop range unless you remember to hold 1.5 inches over the spot on the target you want to hit.
