Mentioned in a current thread, it got me to thinking. How do you define a "combat handgun"?

I'd venture to say it starts with a sidearm that shoots a service grade caliber -- .38 Special, 9mm or larger.

Share your thoughts. :)

"combat Handgun", to me, means a handgun utilized by some nation's armed forces or law enforcement agencies, for field work: not supervisors weapons used in the office as paperweights or to dispatch non-believers.

My secondary definition would be a reliable hi power handgun that holds 7+ [thinking of 1911s with 7, not 9mm] rounds and is accurate to within 5" at 25 yards.

In other words, something you can pick up and make work without hesitation, under stress, in various weather conditions.

I am biased toward autoloaders when I think of 'combat', but I allow for DA/SA revolvers of sufficient power.

But that is just me. Whatelse?
