What chambering is this?

A friend has a rolling block Remington (?) rifle made in 1870s which uses this ammunition. Is this the same as 41 Rimfire Short or Long? Can ammo for this gun be found for sale anywhere?

it looks like a .41 rimfire. ammo is very hard to find and is expensive. i think that there's only like one ammo maker that puts that stuff out anymore.

Without something to scale the cartridges in your picture it’s to tell. However these are rimfire cartridges, and the “D” headstamp is probably Dominion Cartridge LTD. which is in Canada. That being the case I suspect they may be .32 Rim Fire (Long and Short.) which Dominion produced and Remington (among others) chambered rifles for.

If you happen to have a known cartridge, such as a .32 S&W or a .32 automatic stand it up beside the others and take another picture. The modern cartridge will help us scale the size of the others.
