Just got my custom bobtail Afzelia Xylay "tweeners" (half way between standard and ultra slim thickness) from the "Sarge" (Ryan Payne) of The Finer Grain for my Dan Wesson CBOB. I love the "3D" effect of the veins in this wood. They feel great and the fit and finish is top drawer!
...and an updated "group" picture of my J.M.Browning pistols. Note that all the 1911s have smooth grips too. The BHPs wear finely checkered Spegel grips. Grip material (various makers) clockwise from top left: super curly makore, faux ivory, afzelia xylay, dark cocobolo, Madagascar rosewood, white cocobolo.
