West Virginia to Teach Gun Safety to School Kids?

Sounds like a good idea, but I suspect the anti-gun crowd will panic at the thought. What do you want to bet that they'll oppose the bill by claiming the program would encourage children to use guns. And do you want to bet that they'll be the same people who believe that condom distribution does not encourage children to have sex?

Our gym coach in Jr. High gave us gun safety lessons using his blank pistol which we never touched. Since that was in the early seventies he was likely pushing the envelope.

I think it's good to demistify guns, so to speak. Simply making them taboo has the exact effect one would expect when dealing with curious youth.

I thought the graphic was interesting on the story as well. They are talking about hunting but the photo shows semi-auto pistols more suited to defense.
