Weird grouping from a revolver

Fired a friend's single action revolver (I foget the brand, something obscure fromthe 1970s). It had a 45LC and a 45acp cylinders, we used the 45acp. For each cylinder (5 rounds) at 20ft, I got two consistent groups: a two-shot group 2" down and left of the bullseye and a three-shot group 1" up and right of the bullseye. The first two shots (not from the same chambers) would go left, the next three would go right. The behavior did not seem related to the grip used (firm or relaxed).

Any ideas as to the cause?

If the flyers are not specific to the same bore tube(s) in the cylinder, then it sounds like maybe a timing problem. It's possible the cylinder is not aligning properly with the forcing cone each time. The only other idea might be a loose sight?

I also vote timing. A similar thing happened to a Blackhawk of mine and timing was the cause there.
