Watched the movie "Shooter" last night.

I give it two and a half stars. Overall the plot was pretty predictable and there were several political statements that it could have done without, ie. regarding the President, WMD's, US foreign policy, etc.
I do, however give it 5 stars and 6 thumbs up for gun porn.
In the DVD version the famous " I'm exercising my 2nd ammendment rights." line we all saw in the trailer and commercials was removed.
Anyway, it's worth renting.

How closely did it follow the book? Or did Hollywood use bits and pieces and come up with different characters, etc. and totally ruin the story.

It's Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. He has a series on the character Bob Lee Swagger who is the former Marine sniper in the book. I'll bet they even changed his name in the movie.

Hunter is an excellent writer and obviously pro-gun.

Lol, reminds of when Homer was a food critic, and he decided to give a restaurant his "worst rating ever - 7 thumbs up" (Homer has 8 digits total, of course). :)

I would like to see the movie....

I've read "Point of Impact" several times, as well as the other books by Stephen Hunter that relate to Bob Lee Swagger. I agree with the 2.5 star rating and its a good enough movie to rent. It does not however follow the book very well in my opinion. There are bits and pieces in the movie that the book reader will remember, but it is a far cry from the book. I realize its hard to make a 2 hour movie as good as a great book, and I could go on and on about the lack of detail. My advice is to watch the movie, then go read the book, and then the other books by Hunter.

Thanks. I put it on my Netflix queue. Hopefully the disc they send will have the special features interviews, etc.

A buddy at work bought it yesterday and was playing it for some of the pt's today at work. I'm on the list to borrow it this week end. (I'm really cheap sometimes.);)

I thought it was a decent action packed MOVIE. They really made sure that he "acted" like a sniper when he was in action. The attention to detail was pretty good...I thought anyways.

It seems a lot of the Hollywood types are anti gun in their

private (public) life but not in their work and promoting movies. I think they are trying to compensate for the belief their movies may cause 'gun violence'. Silly compensation in my mind....

But then I grew up in a time when it was cool to play cowboys and injuns and cops and robbers.
