VZ 2008 Hot Handguard

Has anyone come up with an inexpensive fix to the hand guards getting hot quickly? I don't want to spend a ton of money and make it all tactical-cool and it seems like replacing the fore end gets expensive.

I think it'd be cool for someone to experiment with a G36-style forward-venting gas block. You'll always get blow-by on the cylinder, but far more of the excess gas would never see the inside of the hand guards. A vertical foregrip is the easiest option, though (and is something of a requirement for all platforms used excessively)

Practicing fire discipline is simpler, still ;)

I think I've seen pics of someone doing that on the interwebs somewhere.

I tried so hard to find a pic. Even stumbled across a FN FAL forum, and started reading about a few people using that same tape for the hand guard to protect from heat.

I don't have any on my guns, but I bought some of that tape for the intake on my car, and it seemed to help significantly. Intake air temps are cooler, which lets me use low test fuel in the summer, without pinging or detonation.

If I had a rifle that needed it, I'd probably have it on that rifle too.
