VEPR Rifle questions

I have seen this rifle mentioned in several threads, and have become interested, but dont know much about AK style rifles. How is this different from other AKs? Why are they supposed to be so good? Do they take standard AK mags?

Anybody know where to find one in GA?

they are a strong design that in the small calibers take standard double stack AK mags
the Russian Molot factory makes a very high quality machine.

the .308s take their own 10 rounders & are modifiable to M14 mags
i have had one since 1999 in .308
its a ~2 MOA gun

Just my opinion:

Built like a tank - receiver 1 1/2 times as thick as regular AK
MUCH more accurate than a regular AK
New standard 30 round AK mags are $10 if you look round
Finish far superior to any other stock AK
Quality, heavy duty furniture
The thing never jams and it just won't break
Recoil is minimal (7.62 x 39) don't know about the .308
They come with the side scope mount
Longer than a regular AK to fit us big Americans
Also comes in a shorter, carbine version if you prefer


Only one drawback but I don't care because I'm big - they weigh nine pounds. If your mostly a bench rest shooter, don't worry about it.

You gotta be nuts to buy a Romanian SAR1 for 350-400 bucks (depending on your area) when you can get 2-3 times the rifle for another 100-150 or so. Get one now while they are still affordable. Good Luck.

the vepr is built on the RPK receiver, which is heavier and longer than the rifle
