Vepr .308

I have recently gotten interested in one of these but can't decide on model. What are the main differences between VEPR I and VEPR II? I can't see what accounts for the mark II being at least half a pound heavier than the mark I. Are there any models in .308 that have a shorter bbl than 20"? Also is a scout type weaver mount avail for these guns? Thanks for the help.
