varget load for 223 55 grain fmj

I am loading 223 for the first time. I am using varget powder and a 55 grain fmj bullet. I want a starting load. I am going with.a lyman manual of 24 grains. other manual has lighter starting loads. advice?

24 grains under a 55 is a good starting load IMO. Sierra shows loads for the AR starting at 25 and going to 27.2, and bolt gun loads running 23.7-26.9.

Each gun is slightly different but my favorite AR loves 24.3 with 55 bullets. My other 223 does not, it prefers 25.

My AR is a tack driver with 26 gr Varget behind a Hornady 55gr FMJ, but yeah, start at 24 gr and work your way up and you'll be fine.
