An attorney with the council confirmed Tuesday that the organization plans to file a friend of the court brief with the U.S. District Court supporting the university's claims that it has a right to ban guns under constitutional guarantees of free speech and the right to maintain a safe environment.

Wow. Using the 1st amendment to destroy the 2nd. Wonder.

"Deference to academic judgment and the way institutions conduct themselves in a self-regulatory manner has met with endorsement by court after court. I don't quite see it flipping the other way."

Utah's rather strong preemption language creates a problem for them. What these folks think is that U's exist outside of legal authority, as if universities can exist outside of state funds and mandates. They cannot.
