I'm looking to by a Uberti 1866 Yellow Boy Carbine but was wondering if the saddle ring could be removed as I'm not crazy about it. Can someone tell me if and how it can be removed and if brass screws can be placed in the holes left from the ring?

If I remember right, that ring has a small u-bolt holding it to the frame, which would have a nut on the back. Why not just take the ring off the u-bolt?

The "U" shaped part that holds the ring is known as the staple.
These are usually riveted inside the receiver.

To remove requires grinding off the enlarged heads inside the receiver and pulling the staple out.
This will leave two holes in the receiver.

That's different.
Probably cheaper to assemble and easier for the buyer to remove.
Up until this, everything I'd ever seen on a lever rifle was staked on like the originals.
