Trigger Squeeze

Here is my question at the range the other day I shot my S&W 686 revolver. I curled my trigger finger around the trigger (used second pad of finger). The accuracy was amazing. When I tried the same technique with my Usp 40c and my Ruger p89 9mm, and Sig p239 in .357sig I did not have the same results why???

My guess would be that it's one of two things, or a combination of both.

First, your DA revolver probably has a heavier trigger pull than the semiautos you listed (I'm referring to DA trigger pull here). You got more leverage shooting the way you did and probably got more control of the heavy trigger pull.

Second posibility would be the way the gun fits your hand. This is a function of hand size, grip, trigger reach, etc. Your hand may fit the revolvers grip better than the others.

Hope this helps but without seeing you shoot I'm just guessing.

I think your experiences with trigger-finger positioning vs. accurate fire probably have a great deal to do with the relationship between your hand size and gun grip of the weapon(s).

I shoot a standard 1911 single-stack well, using the crease of my trigger finger on the trigger. However, when I shoot my double-stack Para P12, using the knuckle crease results in a tendency to 'push' shots toward the 8 o'clock area of targets. I attribute this to the larger diameter of the Para grip. I shoot the Para much better using the pad of my trigger finger.

Even if the DA/SA pistol had an excellant trigger, the revolver will enjoy one advantage: longer sight radius. You not only get the length of the barrel, but also that of the frame. Funny, having fired revolvers since college (a few years before going into LE), I still shoot them better than pistols.
