Anybody loaded .45AR with IMR Trail Boss? I've been eyeballing that combination quite hard since I've found out they (infrequently) make .45ACP cylinders for the Cimmaron 1875 Remington Army Outlaw's. Might even give it a whirl in my 25-2 with the AR's if I can find starting and stopping spots for 200gr LSWC's.
Trail Boss in a .45 Auto Rim?

Theoretically, the .45 ACP and Auto Rim are identical except for the rim; however, the .45 Auto Rim cartridge is rated at a lower max pressure than the .45 ACP. This is most likely in deference to the old M1917 revolvers for which the cartridge was originally designed. For a modern S&W 625, most folks use .45 ACP data for the Auto Rim.
The big question is what does the maker of the .45ACP outlaw cylinder recommend? Some of the cartridge conversion units for BP C&B revolvers specify BP only. Without other restrictions, I'd use .45 ACP data that doesn't exceed the Auto Rim's 15,000 CUP max. Since I have many home cast 200 gr SWC's, I'd probably start with them over 4 gr of Trail Boss.

180 gr LFP 3.5 gr 664 ft/s 7,100 CUP -to- 5.0 852 ft/s 13,700 CUP

230 gr LRN 3.5 gr 658 ft/s 11,200 CUP -to- 4.5 761 ft/s 15,100 CUP

There's a problem in of itself- I haven't been able to track one down yet. Cimmaron says to check back every few months as they only get so many of them per year. They are out there, but the one's I've found so far have are attached to another revolver... kinda like buying a car just to get the hubcaps.
Appropriate? You're probably right, but I'm already running factory AR's in a 1917 and a 25-2. When I gets all the components and gumption together- I'll gear up for the Colt ctg, but I'm not in a terrible hurry.
And, I guess I just have a knack or desire to do the odd-ball thing. For instance, I've got a bead on a badly abused 28 that would make a dandy .38-40. Any advantage to that? Nope, I just wanna be the only guy on the block to have a DA .38-40.
