.454 round balls. Cap size is a crap shoot. Whatever size someone else may have found to work may not work on your gun, as there is no standard defining cap or nipple sizes (No. 11 means something different to every manufacturer). Caps are $4.00/100 give or take, so you may have to invest $20 to find out what size/brand is best.

I've got a pair of Traditions 1860s from the 90s. They like .454s better than .451s, and the Remington # 10s worked better than the CCIs on the stock nipples before I changed them to Tresos.

Mykeal is right, you may have to go through a few tins of caps to find the ones that work best on the pistol. Changing the nipples to Tresos will simplify the search.
