Time to finish this one!

This Remington Model 6 .22 was my dad's first gun.
I destroyed the finish when I was a teenager, so in 1989 I decided it needed a little prettying up. Got it about half finished, and life got in the way of the project. The receiver will be silver plated, barrel rust blued, not sure about the rest of the small parts.

What's the story behind it? Did you father buy it engraved and how did you remove the bluing without ruining the engraving? I was taught some things (we were told to touch it up if we learned how to engrave) but want to hear what you did.

Sorry- My great uncle gave it to my dad around the time of WW1. The gun was a standard model 6.

At about the age of 14, I discovered 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Needed my ass kicked! The gun was in excellent condition before i "cleaned it up!)

So, in 1989 I decided to pretty the gun up a little. I refinished and engraved the receiver. I just didn't finish it.

"...remove the bluing without ruining..." Plain white vinegar will do it.
That engraving cries out for a blue and silver finish. With the high parts being silver. No idea how it's done though. That'd be way too artsy for me.

For the small parts (pins etc.) I can't help but think nitre blue
