Im looking into getting a tikka t3 lite stainless but have a question for the mounts. ive found the scope im looking for and now need to get a good mount for it. The DNZ mounts look nice but the scope im looking at has 80 MOA max adjustment and id like to get a ring with 20 MOA shim. how would i go about using a 20 MOA shimed ring on a tikka? and ideas for the actual ring and mount?

Make sure you get the 20 MOA one. Then for rings, get Warne, Leupold Mark 4, Badger, Seekins, Nightforce.

And read Part I, II, and III here a few times: http://demigodllc.com/articles/practical-long-range-rifle-shooting-equipment/

They're not aluminum, they're steel. And they're machined in pairs. The best ain't cheap, especially with a name like Badger on the box.

I agree you don't need Badgers. But $16 Milletts really don't belong on a 500 yard rifle. At least get the Leupold PRWs.

Or the Warnes (which are close to your $20 goal). You might even find them elsewhere cheaper.

SO, you're going to be competing out to 1000 yds. with that Tikka Light? Good luck! :) You probably don't need a 20 m.o.a. mount, and you probably don't need better rings than just about any manufacturer's steel rings. ;)

LOL! what a fool. at least i did it on a good forum... so with 80 moa of adjustment on the specs i entered how far do you think i could REALLY shoot, as far as before it runs out of adjustment, not skill on my part. o and do you think silver rings would look good with a black scope?

not competing but just shooting for fun. you know, set up some targets at 800 yards and see who can get it first.

Assuming your zero is at the scope's mechanical zero (you still have +/- 40 MOA adjustment from zero), you could get out to +900 yards before the scope bottomed out. 900 yards, assuming everything is just as we entered, would require 38.9 MOA of adjustment.

As for the color concerns.... here ya go.

I just got a Tikka 3 now I need to get a scope and it looks like the Nikon Bushmaster will be the one with bullet compensator. I didn't find the Leupold scopes as clear or crisp view. The light was more clear on the Nikon and the Leupold was cloudy.
Plus I noticed that the Leupold cost about $100 more for what you can get in a comparable Nikon scope.
I did like the feature of most of the Nikon scopes adjustment knobs that you could adjust them with a click of a finger. The Leupolds had the type you needed a penny or something to do adjustments. I think the higher cost Leupolds may have had this type of sight adjustment that you can use with your hand.
