Thumbs forward?

I use my CZ 97b at our matches to good effect. I've discovered it gives more control if my thumbs are parallel to the slide.

What is the best way to transition to this technique after doing the 'thumbs down' style for ten years?

Dry fire practice may help, if you want to shoot live ammo I would look at a 22 conversion kit or even a 22 pistol.

I've shot in competitions with shooters from Japan, they practiced with air soft guns, they were darn good shooters too.

Aim your thumbs at the target, too.
Not only does that reinforce using the technique, it also assists the wrists down into the locked position to help with recoil control.
And practice, practice - live fire, dry fire, airguns, whatever.
Like everything else, sooner or later, it will become the natural thing to do.

Practice! Thumbs forward is a great way to shoot a combat pistol. There are a lot of videos on youtube if you are having trouble getting comfortable
