Thread Protector Length?

I'm working on a dedicated 22lr upper for my AR15. In the interest of saving a few bucks, I opted to get a thread protector as opposed to a muzzle device.

The thread protector I bought is too long. It came with a crush washer, but with or without the washer, it is still too long. From the shoulder to the barrel's muzzle, the length is .4". The thread protector measures .6". The threads stop short of the shoulder so the thread protector will not thread right against the shoulder by itself. The crush washer is about .145". With both the thread protector and washer, the thread protector is nearly a 1/2" too long. Aside from looking a little wonky, is this going to cause any problems?

I guess it's either a really good question or a really stupid one. I ordered a new one that should fit better.
