They used REAL M1 Garands!

My little town in New Hampshire had our "Old Home Days" this past weekend and I was extremely pleased and surprised that the American Legion band that marched in the parade had a color guard that carried real M1's, not mock rifles like you always see used in bigger venues. "Live Free Or Die"!

So far as I know, it is policy for American Legion Posts to have Garands. The primary use is for salutes at funerals of members.
